Physical Education (PE) and Health Teacher, Roberts Academy (K-5) (part-time term position)
Job Description
The PE teacher provides direct supervision of and instruction to students in a whole class setting. The PE and Health teacher will plan and execute lessons aligned to the Tennessee K-5 Physical Education Standards as well as the Tennessee K-5 Health and Wellness Standards. Teachers work closely with fellow teachers and the school administration to provide instruction and support to all students of the Academy. The PE and Health teacher will teach approximately seven PE classes and two health classes per week.
This is a part-time (approx. 10-12 hours per week), term position for the 2026-2027 school year. PE and Health classes will be held between 12:00 and 3:00 Monday - Friday.
About the Work Unit
Roberts Academy is an elementary school for students with dyslexia. In the 2026-2027 school year, the Academy will enroll students in 3 rd – 5 th grade.
The Roberts Academy’s instructional approach follows the principles of intensive intervention for students with dyslexia who have the most persistent academic needs. Students at Roberts Academy receive individualized, evidence-based instruction that seeks to leverage their unique strengths and interests while intentionally targeting their greatest areas of need. While specifically a school for students with dyslexia, Roberts Academy offers a comprehensive program and learning environment that provides students with the skills, knowledge, and confidence to transition to a variety of school settings.
Duties and Responsibilities
Maintains a clean, safe, orderly learning environment which contributes to children’s physical, emotional, social, and cognitive development.
Supervisory Relationships:
This position does not have supervisory responsibility. This position reports administratively and functionally to the Director of Roberts Academy. However, there may be opportunities to provide feedback to Vanderbilt University students assigned to the classroom.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree and work experience with school-aged students is required. Previous experience teaching physical education in an elementary school is preferred.
