The Opportunity
PWR is on the lookout for a CNC Programmer to join us in creating our world class cooling technology.
The ideal candidate will be creating and managing CNC programs for both 3-axis and 5-axis machines, ensuring high precision and quality in the production of complex machined parts. This role involves offline programming, fixture and jig design, and the implementation of engineering solutions to meet customer specifications. The CNC Programmer will support the machine shop by developing streamlined processes and procedures, mentoring junior employees, and ensuring efficient and accurate machining operations
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop and write CNC programs for 3-axis and 5-axis machines, ensuring precision and efficiency.
- Adapt to machining complex components, especially those made of aluminium, for aerospace or motorsport applications.
- Design various fixtures and jigs to support machining operations.
- Ensure proper tooling selection and procedures for optimal machining performance.
- Utilize MasterCam, Vericut, or similar CAM software for programming and simulation.
- Verify and validate programs to ensure they meet customer specifications and engineering drawings.
- Create detailed setup sheets for machinists, including step-by-step instructions.
- Oversee the development of new programs, ensuring they run smoothly and accurately.
- Mentor apprentices and junior employees, providing guidance and support in their development.
- Assist the machine shop in developing streamlined processes and procedures to enhance efficiency.
- Identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities in programming and machining operations.
- Solve problems related to part creation and machining, developing engineering solutions.
- Engage in the engineering production process, material flow, and machine utilization to optimize operations.
- Maintain accurate records of programming activities and machining operations.
Key Competencies:
- Proficient in offline programming for 3-axis and 5-axis CNC machines.
- Experienced with MasterCam, Vericut, or similar CAM software for simulation and programming.
- Strong understanding of tooling selection, fixture design, and machining procedures.
- Industry qualified in an Engineering discipline or similar level qualification.
- Strong experience in high-speed machining, particularly with aluminium parts.
- Experience with Mazak Variaxis and HAAS machining centers is desirable.
- Ensures precision and accuracy in all programming and machining operations.
- Meticulously documents programming activities and maintains quality standards.
- Capable of identifying and addressing complex machining issues promptly.
- Demonstrates strong leadership skills, capable of mentoring apprentices and junior employees.
- Committed to producing high-quality parts that meet or exceed specifications.
- Conducts thorough quality checks and simulations to ensure program accuracy.
- Reliable and consistent in meeting production schedules and deadlines.
- Demonstrates a strong work ethic and accountability for tasks.
