At King Studios, our videos are a seamless blend of visual effects, green screens, and physical craftsmanship. We are looking for an early-career Set Carpenter to join us at our new studio in Westlake Village, CA for this on-site, project-based contractor role.
In this role, you will work closely with producers, VFX artists, and creatives to bring imaginative visions to life. You’ll truly own the entire lifecycle of the build—from early ideation and creation through to the final strike. Because production environments are unpredictable, we need someone who can problem-solve on the fly, confidently navigating unexpected obstacles and finding creative workarounds to get the job done.
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who has foundational carpentry experience, is comfortable estimating project costs, and is eager to learn the ins and outs of social media video production.
AT KING STUDIO YOU’LL...
- In coordination with the production team, schedule your week by EOD Monday: Plan your build approach, source materials, and give the producer a project cost estimate
- Execute and maintain final authority over all carpentry and woodwork — including frames, platforms, and custom builds — ensuring structural integrity and functionality throughout the production lifecycle.
- Communicate proactively with producers as designs evolve mid-week in response to creative feedback.
- Act as the single point of contact for all build-related matters, taking ownership of technical troubleshooting and structural safety on set.
- Be present on set during shoots: repair, reinforce, and operate any set mechanisms you’ve built
- Strike all sets fully and confirm completion with the producer
- Track and submit all material expenses in Google Sheets weekly
THIS ROLE REQUIRES...
- Solid carpentry fundamentals — you know your way around saws, power tools, and structural builds
- Ability to read a project brief and translate it into a material plan and cost estimate
- Full project lifecycle accountability: you are responsible for the quality, safety, and operational integrity of every build from the initial construction phase through to the final strike.
- A collaborative spirit and a low-ego approach to teamwork
- Comfort juggling multiple projects with different timelines
- An "all hands on deck" mentality; we're a lean, scrappy team that supports one another to get the job done, regardless of the task.
- Hollywood is a bonus, not a requirement. We’re looking for someone who can prove they can adapt to the job, not prove themselves with past accomplishments. We’re a lean, scrappy team that values your growth, and we are committed to supporting you as you tackle new challenges.
