POSITION OVERVIEW
The Group Leader / Content Creator plays a hands-on role in supervising, engaging, and supporting youth in Bright Futures Afterschool Inc.’s DYCD COMPASS Elementary Program.
This position is responsible for leading daily activities, creating and implementing engaging lesson plans and enrichment activities, maintaining a safe and supportive environment, and serving as a positive role model for students.
The Group Leader / Content Creator supports academic enrichment, social-emotional learning (SEL), recreation, arts, STEM, literacy, and youth development programming while helping ensure high-quality program delivery. Expected Start Date August 1, 2026.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIESYouth Engagement & Supervision
- Supervise and actively engage groups of students during afterschool activities.
- Maintain a safe, inclusive, respectful, and structured environment for all participants.
- Build positive relationships with youth and families.
- Promote teamwork, leadership, and positive behavior among students.
- Ensure participants remain supervised at all times.
Program Delivery & Content Creation
- Plan, organize, and lead educational, recreational, SEL, STEM, literacy, arts, and enrichment activities.
- Create age-appropriate lesson plans and engaging activity content aligned with program goals.
- Develop creative projects, themed activities, and hands-on learning experiences.
- Implement structured activities that support academic and social-emotional development.
- Assist with homework help and academic support.
- Adapt activities to meet diverse participant needs and learning styles.
- Support weekly SEL and life skills programming requirements.
Classroom Management & Participant Support
- Encourage participation and positive social interaction among students.
- Use positive behavior management strategies and conflict resolution techniques.
- Support participant engagement during transitions and group activities.
- Help create a welcoming and encouraging learning environment.
Collaboration & Communication
- Work closely with the Program Director and other staff to ensure smooth daily operations.
- Communicate professionally with parents, staff, and students.
- Report incidents, concerns, injuries, behavioral issues, or student progress to supervisors immediately.
- Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and program planning sessions.
Administrative Duties
- Take daily attendance and maintain participant accountability.
- Help with setup and cleanup of classrooms and activity spaces.
- Maintain organized materials and supplies for activities.
- Assist with program evaluations and observations.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding participants and families.
Safety & Compliance
- Follow all Bright Futures Afterschool Inc. policies and procedures.
- Comply with DYCD COMPASS, DOE, SACC, and child safety requirements.
- Follow emergency preparedness, dismissal, supervision, and incident reporting procedures.
- Participate in required drills and trainings.
- Maintain professional boundaries with participants at all times.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Some college coursework in Education, Child Development, Youth Development, Human Services, Arts Education, or related field preferred.
Experience
- Experience working with children or teens in a school, camp, afterschool, recreation, or youth development setting preferred.
- Experience leading activities, lesson planning, or enrichment programming preferred.
Knowledge & Skills

- Ability to manage groups of youth in a fun, structured, and safe manner.
- Creativity and enthusiasm for educational and enrichment programming.
- Strong classroom management and youth engagement skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with staff and families.
- Ability to maintain professionalism, reliability, and positive energy.
REQUIRED CLEARANCES & CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
- Successful completion of background checks and required child safety clearances.
- Completion of mandated reporter training and required safety trainings.
- Ability to work afternoons, evenings, and occasional special events.
- Ability to supervise active youth programming indoors and outdoors.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience working in DYCD COMPASS, SONYC, school-based, or community youth programs.
- CPR/First Aid certification preferred.
- Bilingual abilities are a plus.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to stand, walk, and actively supervise participants.
- Ability to participate in recreational and enrichment activities.
- Ability to move throughout school buildings and activity spaces.
