JOB GOALS
The primary job goal is to provide specialized instruction to high school students with disabilities in the areas of transition, including employment, education/training, independent living, and community participation.
QUALIFICATIONS
E ducation & Certification: Bachelor’s degree in education required; Michigan teaching certificate with an endorsement in special education, required
Work Experience: Three years of experience, preferred
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Skills:
- Knowledge and familiarity with a variety of disability areas
- Communicate and collaborate with others in a supportive and professional way
- Lead and support the work of the program assistant
- Provide specialized instruction and IEP-related work for assigned caseload
- Develop and implement student and classroom procedures and plans to provide consistency and effective classroom and behavior management
- Co-lead program placement processes
- Maintain complete, accurate and timely records and student progress data
- Keep up to date with current practices, research, and educational trends
- Handle confidential student and parent information in a professional and ethical manner
- Demonstrate reliable attendance and punctuality
- Make student-centered decisions
- Adhere to federal, state and district policies and procedures
- Complete assigned responsibilities within agreed upon timelines
- Seek ongoing improvement and accept feedback in a professional way
- Perform additional tasks, responsibilities and duties as assigned by the Principal
Physical Requirements:
- Sitting and working on a computer for long periods of time
- Stand, bend and move throughout the day
- Travel during the day to provide community-based instruction
- Lift at least 15 pounds
