Midwest Foods is a wholesale food distributor providing top-quality food products to numerous food establishments in Chicago, surrounding suburbs, Michigan, Wisconsin and Indiana. Family-owned and run company for two generations, we import fruits & vegetables from across the country and other parts of the world to distribute these products to local markets. We are looking to complement our growth by selecting staff that will enhance our company’s mission to provide quality service and products. Midwest Foods is currently hiring a QA Technician.
The QA Technician is responsible for ensuring that the manufacturing process is carried out in a food safe and wholesome manner. The QA Technician is also responsible for identifying and resolving quality issues, working hand in hand with operations and ensuring that all products are manufactured according to the correct product specifications and process flows. The QA Technician must be familiar with HACCP and GMP. The QA Technician reports to the FSQA Manager.
Schedule: Sun- Friday with Saturday and one rotating weekday off 2nd shift start times
Responsibilities:
- Provide independent oversight of QA and Production processes, verifying compliance with company standards and policies
- Maintain a clear understanding of Quality Assurance Programs and SOPs.
- Adhere to all regulatory rules and regulations, ensuring that Food Safety and product performance standards are met, place equipment and product on hold when necessary
- Monitor HACCP critical control points and enforce GMPs, including audits
- Calibrate and maintain equipment, including (but not limited to) thermometers, colorimeters, weight scales, metal detectors, etc.
- Verify the concentrations of the chemicals and sanitizers, collect microbiology samples
- Perform daily Pre-operational inspections, Pre-op ATP and conduct product/process testing.
- Monitor and ensure compliance of allergen management, organic processing, and USDA standards
- Develop operational quality standards, traceability documents, batch sheets and specification sheets while maintaining accurate records and data
- Use all safety equipment and PPE provided by the company according to instructions
- Assist with auditory preparation and practices, as assigned
Requirements:
- Minimum 1 year of Quality Assurance experience in USDA-monitored facility including GMP, HACCP and CCP experience, REQUIRED
- Must be able to read, write and accurately record data in English; bilingual in Spanish, REQUIRED
- Ability to meet physical demands, including lifting up to 30 lbs., without assistance and standing/walking the entire shift
- Ability to work in cold environments (36 degrees)
- Availability to work assigned schedule and flexibility to have rotating weekday off
