The Inspector - Level 2 performs advanced mechanical and electronic inspections to ensure products meet engineering, customer, and regulatory requirements. This role supports AS9100 compliance, customer/government source inspections, and continuous improvement initiatives across the manufacturing value stream.
Responsibilities
- Inspect mechanical parts, electronic subassemblies, and assemblies using drawings, process sheets, engineering change orders, and written/verbal instructions.
- Verify workmanship to required standards (e.g., solder quality, electrical bonds, component placement, plating, mechanical fit).
- Use precision measurement tools including micrometers, calipers, Verniers, gauges, pin gauges, optical comparators, and CMMs to validate dimensions and tolerances.
- Perform calculations to determine angles, tolerances, and other specified measurements.
- Conduct re‑inspection of parts and assemblies after rework, repair, or modification.
Perform simple setups and verifications of inspection equipment, ensuring calibration status is valid.

Quality System Compliance
- Execute inspections in accordance with AS9100/AS9110, internal QMS procedures, and customer-specific requirements.
- Complete accurate inspection records, travelers, checklists, and digital entries to maintain full traceability.
- Ensure nonconforming material is properly identified, tagged, segregated, and routed to MRB.
Support internal and external audits by providing objective evidence and technical clarification.

FAI, Documentation & Data Integrity
- Perform and document First Article Inspections (FAIs) per AS9102, including dimensional, visual, and documentation verification.
- Verify accuracy of routers, travelers, and inspection documentation; identify discrepancies and initiate corrections.
Enter inspection data into ERP/QMS systems (SAP preferred) with accuracy and completeness.

Customer & Government Interface
- Prepare for and support Customer and Government (DCMA) Source Inspections.
- Perform final inspection prior to customer acceptance to ensure compliance with all contractual and technical requirements.
Conduct field return evaluations and document findings to support repair and customer reporting.

Cross-Functional Support & Problem Solving
- Interface with Engineering, Manufacturing, and Quality Engineering to resolve technical issues and clarify requirements.
- Provide factual defect data to support root cause analysis and corrective action activities.
Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance inspection methods, reduce cycle time, and improve product quality.

Process Discipline & Continuous Improvement
- Confirm processes are being accurately completed per policies, procedures, and standard work.
- Participate in 5S, GEMBA walks, and visual management activities to maintain an organized and compliant inspection environment.
- Identify opportunities to improve inspection efficiency, tooling, and documentation.
