Playnotes is seeking engaging musicians to join our Children's Music Programming Division as Independent Contractor Music Leaders. If you love singing, playing an instrument, and inspiring young children through music, we'd love to hear from you.
As a Playnotes Music Leader, you'll travel to local childcare centers to lead joyful, interactive music sessions for children ranging from toddlers through Pre-K using the Playnotes Musical Pathway. Our programs, developed by music therapists, combine music, movement, imagination, and play to support children's overall development while building a lifelong love of music.

ABOUT THE POSITION
As a Music Leader within the Playnotes Children's Music Programming Division, you'll travel to local childcare centers to lead engaging, play-based music sessions for children from toddlers through Pre-K.
Using the Playnotes Musical Pathway, you'll combine singing, movement, instruments, and imaginative play to create joyful musical experiences that support children's social, emotional, cognitive, and musical development.
No lesson planning is required—we provide the curriculum framework, original music, and teaching resources so you can focus on creating meaningful musical experiences.
SCHEDULE
Weekday mornings
Typical availability is between:
8:30 AM – 12:30 PM
Contractors may accept assignments based on their availability.
Assignments are available throughout the greater Pittsburgh area, and we make every effort to assign locations that minimize travel whenever possible.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead engaging 30-minute music sessions for groups of young children.
- Travel to assigned childcare centers.
- Create fun, interactive music experiences using singing, movement, instruments, and props.
- Utilize the Playnotes Musical Pathway and provided resources.
- Communicate professionally with Playnotes and partner sites.
- Represent the Playnotes mission with enthusiasm, professionalism, and positivity.
QUALIFICATIONS
We're looking for someone who:
- Loves working with young children
- Is a confident singer
- Can comfortably accompany themselves on guitar, ukulele, or keyboard
- Has an engaging, energetic, and positive personality
- Is dependable and professional
- Has reliable transportation
- Is at least 18 years old
Experience in music education, music therapy, early childhood education, or performance is preferred but not required.

Contractors provide their own primary instrument. Playnotes provides curriculum resources and may provide additional materials and equipment as needed.
COMPENSATION
This is a 1099 Independent Contractor position.
Compensation
- $30 per 30-minute session
- $45 per 45-minute session
- $60 per 60-minute session
Most childcare visits include multiple consecutive sessions, allowing contractors to maximize their morning schedule while minimizing travel.
In addition:
- $50 one-time Resource Introduction reimbursement upon successful completion of onboarding.
- Payment is made monthly upon receipt of an invoice.
