Responsibilities:
Abilities, Inc. at The Viscardi Center is seeking an Assistant Program Coordinator, Inclusive Higher Education (IHE) to support the day-to-day implementation of program services at Queensborough Community College. This role works closely with the Program Director, Program Coordinator, college administrators, Viscardi Center staff, instructors, and campus partners to help ensure the effective delivery of inclusive higher education programming.
The Assistant Program Coordinator will assist with the implementation of program services in collaboration with college administrators, Viscardi Center staff, instructors, and campus partners. Responsibilities include coordinating classroom space, transportation, program supplies, campus visits, and staff coverage.
This position will also support curriculum implementation and program activities to ensure instruction supports student learning outcomes and complies with OPWDD requirements. The Assistant Program Coordinator may provide instruction on designated topics according to the program calendar.
Additional responsibilities include collecting assessment data, attendance records, and required program documentation; creating, maintaining, and entering daily participant notes into the Medisked database; and supporting special events and other assigned program activities.
The Assistant Program Coordinator will also escort students safely to and from classes, campus activities, and other scheduled locations while encouraging independence. The role includes driving students locally to approved off-site vocational opportunities, volunteer sites, and community activities, as well as providing direct support in academic, vocational, social, and independent living activities.
Qualifications & Education
A bachelor’s degree in Education, Disability Studies, Human Services, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field is preferred. Knowledge of OPWDD Day Habilitation and Pre-Vocational services is also preferred.
The successful candidate must have excellent communication and organizational skills, experience working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, the ability to work constructively with others, demonstrated cultural competency, and the ability to travel locally. Bilingual candidates are encouraged to apply. A valid New York State Driver’s License is required.
