Grades 16 Reading SpecialistAffordable housing option available with this position, if needed.Position OverviewMystic Valley Regional Charter School is seeking a dedicated Reading Specialist to support students in Grades 16 who require targeted reading and language intervention. Reporting directly to the Assistant Directors (K8), the Reading Specialist will oversee the school's Reading Intervention Program and work closely with students, teachers, and families to help struggling readers achieve grade-level proficiency.The Reading Specialist will use both internal and external assessment data to identify students in need of intervention, develop individualized instructional plans, and provide research-based reading support aligned with the school's curriculum and instructional philosophy.This is an 11-month position.Essential ResponsibilitiesIdentify students who are at risk or performing below grade level in reading and language development using assessment data.Provide targeted reading intervention to students in Grades 16 (with occasional support for students through Grade 8 as needed).Communicate with families regarding student eligibility, progress, and participation in the Reading Intervention Program.Collaborate with classroom teachers and fellow Reading Specialists to ensure instructional consistency and student success.Implement Direct Instruction (DI) programs whenever appropriate for intervention. For grade levels where DI programs are not applicable, maintain fidelity to school-approved curricula aligned with Direct Instruction and Core Knowledge. New instructional materials or curricula may not be introduced without prior approval through the school's curriculum review process.Provide intervention services throughout the school day according to the assigned teaching schedule and adjust caseloads as students are identified or enroll during the school year.Monitor student progress and prepare quarterly progress reports to accompany report cards.Attend parent-teacher conferences and communicate regularly with families regarding student growth.Perform additional duties that support school operations as assigned by the Assistant Directors.QualificationsBachelor's degree required; Master's degree in Reading, Literacy, or a related field preferred.Massachusetts Reading Specialist license preferred or the ability to obtain appropriate licensure.Three or more years of experience as a Reading Specialist or in a similar literacy intervention role preferred.Strong understanding of reading assessment, intervention, and evidence-based literacy instruction.Excellent organizational, planning, and communication skills.Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with close attention to detail.Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, administrators, students, and families.Commitment to supporting the school's mission, instructional model, and high academic expectations.Flexible, dependable, and able to adapt to changing student needs.
