Simulation Engineer
Company: Chang Robotics
Location: Remote, United States
Employment Type: Full-time
Help Shape the Future of Automation
Chang Robotics is seeking a Simulation Engineer to develop discrete-event simulation models for complex manufacturing, material-handling, logistics, robotics, and automation systems.
You will work with customers and multidisciplinary engineering teams to evaluate concepts, validate system designs, identify operational constraints, and recommend practical improvements. This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys turning complex operations into credible models and clear, actionable recommendations.
What You’ll Do
- Define simulation objectives, assumptions, data requirements, performance measures, and acceptance criteria with customers and project teams.
- Build, test, validate, document, and maintain discrete-event simulation models.
- Model manufacturing processes, warehouses, conveyors, robotics, automated storage systems, and related operations.
- Design simulation experiments to compare layouts, staffing plans, schedules, equipment configurations, and operating strategies.
- Evaluate throughput, capacity, utilization, labor, congestion, queues, storage requirements, and reliability.
- Analyze results, identify constraints, and recommend operational or design improvements.
- Communicate methods, assumptions, findings, and recommendations to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Collaborate with engineering, robotics, software, controls, operations, and project-management teams.
- Support proposals, project estimates, demonstrations, and reusable simulation tools and standards.
Experienced candidates may also lead projects, manage customer deliverables, review technical work, and mentor other engineers.
What You’ll Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Operations Research, Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, or a related field.
- Hands-on experience developing discrete-event simulation models.
- Experience with FlexSim, Simio, AnyLogic, Arena, AutoMod, or a comparable platform.
- Understanding of model verification, validation, experimentation, and statistical output analysis.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and project-management skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaborate with customers and distributed, multidisciplinary teams.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and other common business tools.
- Willingness to travel for customer meetings, site observations, data collection, workshops, and presentations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degree in a related technical field.
- Simulation or industrial engineering experience in manufacturing, automation, warehousing, logistics, or material handling.
- Experience modeling robotics, conveyors, automated storage and retrieval systems, production systems, or distribution centers.
- Knowledge of optimization, experimental design, or operations research.
- Programming experience with C#, C++, Python, Java, SQL, VBA, or similar technologies.
- Familiarity with databases, APIs, ERP, MES, WMS/WES, PLCs, controls, digital twins, or emulation.
- Experience leading projects, developing proposals, estimating engineering effort, or mentoring engineers.
What We Offer
- Remote-first work environment with flexibility based on project and customer needs.
- ICHRA health benefits administered through Thatch.
- 401(k) retirement plan administered through Vestwell.
- Paid time off that grows with tenure: 12 days annually during years 0–4, 15 days during years 5–9, and 23 days after 10 years.
- Five paid sick days annually, separate from regular PTO.
- Professional development and opportunities to lead projects, build technical standards, and mentor others.
- Meaningful work across robotics, automation, simulation, and industrial engineering.
- Company-paid approved business travel and project expenses.
- A collaborative culture centered on integrity, accountability, innovation, generosity, mentorship, diversity, and respect.
