Open-Rank Teaching Faculty Position in Pharmacology

The Department of Pharmacology in the Joe R. Teresa Lozano Long School of Medicine at UT Health San Antonio invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor. Academic rank will be commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications and experience.
The successful candidate will serve as a primary teaching faculty member within the Department of Pharmacology. This is a teaching-intensive appointment involving direct instruction, course leadership, curriculum development, assessment, and educational service across multiple professional and graduate programs.
Position Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be expected to:

Provide instruction in foundational, systems-based, and clinically applied pharmacology;

Serve as course director, co-director, or principal faculty member in courses serving students in Medicine, Dentistry, Nursing, and Health Professions, and graduate biomedical science programs;

Teach topics that may include pharmacodynamics, pharmacokinetics, pharmacotherapeutics, toxicology, drug discovery, and organ-system pharmacology;

Contribute to curriculum development, program evaluation, accreditation activities, and educational quality improvements;

Participate in department and institutional educational service;
Based on experience and rank, the faculty member may assume leadership roles in educational initiatives and curriculum governance and participate in educational scholarship or collaborative research.
Required Qualifications
Applicants must have:
-
A doctoral degree in pharmacology, pharmaceutical sciences, clinical pharmacology, pharmacy, biomedical sciences, or a closely related discipline. Appropriate terminal degrees may include a PhD, PharmD, MD, or equivalent degree;

Experience teaching pharmacology or a closely related biomedical discipline at the university level;

The ability to communicate complex pharmacological concepts effectively to learners with varied educational and professional backgrounds;
Experience directing courses, teaching across professional or graduate programs, developing curricula or assessments, or providing educational leadership is preferred.
Faculty Advancement & Environment
Faculty members are eligible for promotion in academic rank based on sustained accomplishment in teaching and educational leadership in accordance with departmental and university guidelines. Junior faculty will receive mentorship in developing an academic portfolio appropriate for advancement.
