Job Purpose
To operate machinery safely and efficiently; maintain appropriate documentation and communicate ideas and problems to appropriate staff; perform scheduled preventative maintenance. Forklift Operator needs to be able to operate powered industrial machinery with ease. May need to use scanners to keep track of the items being moved. May also need to prepare those items to be moved by placing them on pallets, wrapping them, etc.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
· Ensure the safe and efficient operation of all equipment.
· Check for damaged goods.
· Document part usage or inventory level on appropriate paperwork.
· Maintain forklift and report any issues promptly.
· Record data about the products being moved.
· Follow safe procedures for picking up, putting down and stacking loads.
· Keep a safe distance from the ramp and loading dock edges. Never back up a forklift to the dock’s edge.
· Watch for pedestrians and observe the speed limit.
· Slowdown in congested areas and those with slippery surfaces.
· Use horns at cross aisles and obstructed areas.
· Promote and participate in good housekeeping habits to ensure plant appearance exceeds expectations.
· Be aware of hazards. Wear a seat belt.
· Never exceed the rated load and ensure it is stable and balanced.
· Wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
· Must be able to react to change productively and to handle other tasks as assigned.
