Position Summary:
The Patient Financial Counselor plays a key role in supporting patients before services are rendered by helping them understand and plan for the financial aspects of their care. This position ensures patients receive accurate cost estimates, understand their insurance benefits, and are informed of available financial assistance and copay support programs—all while delivering compassionate, patient-centered service.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide accurate pre-service cost estimates to patients based on scheduled procedures, insurance benefits, and payer contracts
- Verify insurance eligibility, coverage, and benefits for upcoming services
- Clearly explain patient financial responsibility, including co-pays, deductibles, and out-of pocket costs and educate patients on available copay assistance options and eligibility requirements
- Identify and assist and/or enroll eligible patients in financial assistance programs, including financial hardship support, including completing applications and gathering required documentation
- Maintain thorough documentation of patient interactions, estimates, and payment

- Stay current with available copay assistance programs, eligibility changes, and funding availability and coordination with pharmaceutical assistance programs and foundations to secure funding when applicable
- Track copay assistance approvals, balances, and usage to ensure accurate application toward patient accounts
- Serve as a liaison between patients, providers, and assistance program administrators
- Collaborate with billing, coding, scheduling, and clinical teams to ensure accurate and timely financial clearance
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA and all applicable healthcare regulations
- Address patient questions and concerns with professionalism, empathy, and discretion
Qualifications:
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to manage sensitive financial information with confidentiality
- Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills
Preferred:
- Experience in healthcare financial counseling, medical billing, insurance verification, or copay assistance programs
- Knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, commercial insurance, and third-party assistance programs
- Familiarity with EMR and healthcare billing systems
- Additional education in healthcare administration, finance, or a related field
Pay: $19.00 per hour
