Help Lead the Resort You'd Trust With Your Own Dog.
You know what great dog care looks like. You know how much happens behind the scenes to keep a busy daycare and boarding operation running safely and smoothly. And you know that the best operations don't happen by accident—they require strong leadership, clear expectations, a well-trained team, and managers who are willing to be in the middle of the action.
The Wags Club is looking for an experienced Doggie Daycare Operations Manager to join the management team at our luxury dog daycare and boarding resort.
Working closely with our General Manager, you'll take the lead on many of the day-to-day operational aspects of the resort. Your focus will be making sure our team has the leadership, training, systems, and support they need to provide exceptional care to our dogs and outstanding service to our clients.
This is not a desk job, and it's not a General Manager position. It's a hands-on management role for an experienced pet-care leader who wants significant responsibility for daily operations while working as part of an established management team.
If you're the kind of manager who notices when something isn't working, figures out why, and helps the team find a better way to do it, we'd like to meet you.
What We Offer
- $70,500–$75,000 annual salary, depending on experience
- Monthly performance bonus when targets are met
- Medical, dental, and vision benefits
- Bring your dog to work at no cost
- A fun, fast-paced resort environment surrounded by dogs
- A key leadership role with significant responsibility for daily operations
- The opportunity to improve systems, develop employees, and make a visible impact
- Advancement opportunities as The Wags Club grows
What You'll Do
As Operations Manager, you'll work closely with our General Manager to keep the resort running smoothly every day.
The General Manager oversees the location as a whole, including broader business and administrative responsibilities. Your primary focus will be executing our day-to-day operations—making sure our people, processes, and standards come together to deliver exceptional care and service.
You'll be expected to take initiative, make decisions, solve problems, and provide leadership throughout the operation while keeping the General Manager informed and working together on larger operational issues and priorities.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Oversee day-to-day operations throughout the dog daycare and boarding resort
- Work closely with the General Manager to implement operational priorities, policies, and company standards
- Provide daily leadership and direction to employees, Team Leads, and other supervisory staff
- Coach, train, develop, and hold employees accountable for performance
- Identify operational inefficiencies and implement practical solutions that improve productivity, consistency, and service
- Ensure appropriate staffing, workflow, and communication across all areas of the resort
- Help build and maintain a strong leadership structure so the operation runs effectively across all shifts
- Play an integral role in onboarding and training new employees and retraining existing staff as needed
- Participate in performance reviews, employee coaching, and disciplinary processes
- Build strong relationships with clients and professionally resolve client concerns
- Oversee Front Office operations and support sales and revenue goals
- Oversee dog-care operations, including daycare, boarding, feeding, medication, and grooming
- Maintain high standards for dog safety, cleanliness, organization, and overall facility operations
- Manage inventory and ordering
- Oversee daily cash handling, transactions, and petty cash
- Coordinate with vendors and service providers to help ensure the facility and equipment are properly maintained
- Ensure emergency procedures are understood and followed
- Transport dogs to veterinary appointments or emergency care when necessary
- Step in wherever needed to keep the operation running safely and smoothly
What We're Looking For
We're looking for an experienced pet-care leader who understands both sides of this business: providing exceptional care for dogs and leading the people responsible for providing that care.
The ideal candidate:
- Has management or significant leadership experience in a dog daycare, boarding facility, pet resort, veterinary practice, grooming operation, or other professional pet-care environment
- Has experience directly supervising employees and providing day-to-day operational leadership
- Has experience coaching, training, developing, and holding employees accountable
- Understands how to be a strong second-in-command and work effectively in partnership with a General Manager
- Is comfortable making day-to-day operational decisions independently while knowing when an issue needs to be escalated
- Is highly organized and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Naturally notices inefficiencies, inconsistencies, and problems—and works to fix them
- Has strong problem-solving skills and remains calm when unexpected situations arise
- Communicates clearly and professionally with employees, clients, vendors, and management
- Is comfortable handling difficult conversations and resolving both employee and client issues
- Has strong computer skills and is comfortable learning and using business management software
- Is dependable, responsible, proactive, and follows through
- Brings a positive attitude and knows how to motivate and develop a team
- Is friendly, outgoing, and genuinely loves working with dogs
- Has a valid California driver's license
- Has the flexibility required to help manage a seven-day, 24-hour operation
Understanding the Responsibility
Our clients trust us with members of their families.
Our doors may close at night, but our responsibility doesn't. Dogs staying overnight remain in our care around the clock, supported by an overnight team and a management structure responsible for their safety and well-being 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
As Operations Manager, you'll be an important part of that management structure.
Serious operational or emergency situations can occasionally arise outside normal working hours, and members of the management team may need to be available when they do. We're looking for someone who understands that responsibility and is comfortable being part of the team our employees can rely on when something truly requires management attention.
We work hard to train and develop capable employees and leaders so our managers don't have to personally solve every problem. But when you're entrusted with the care of living animals, some situations simply can't wait until the next business day.
This Is a Hands-On Management Role
The best Operations Manager for The Wags Club won't manage exclusively from an office.
You'll need to understand what's happening throughout the resort, build relationships with the team, observe how our systems work in practice, and be willing to step in when circumstances require it.
Candidates must be physically able to stand for extended periods, crouch, stoop, handle dogs of various sizes, and occasionally assist with cleaning, sanitizing, bathing, or other dog-care responsibilities when needed.
Your primary job, however, is to manage the operation and the people performing the work—not to routinely fill an attendant position.
Ready for Your Next Step?
If you've built your career in professional pet care and you're ready to take on a significant operational leadership role—working alongside a General Manager while helping lead the people and systems that keep a busy pet resort running—we'd like to hear from you.
Please submit your resume and a cover letter explaining why you're interested in this position and why your experience makes you a strong fit for The Wags Club.
