Role Overview
The R&D Fabrication Specialist is responsible for the machining, fabrication, and sourcing of components that support engineers, designers, and production teams in implementing new products and improving existing Leisure Creations product lines. This role requires an agile, critical thinker with a broad technical skillset capable of tackling complex R&D challenges.
Note: This is a research and development role, not a high-volume production position. You will work both independently and collaboratively depending on project requirements.
Essential Functions
- Technical Interpretation: Study blueprints, technical drawings, and engineering data to determine the most efficient sequences of operations for component fabrication.
- Tooling Development: Select or develop custom fixtures, specialized tools, and machinery setups required for new product development.
- Prototyping: Build components based on specifications derived from verbal instructions, CAD models, and formal engineering drawings.
- Quality Control: Utilize a wide range of precision measuring instruments to maintain strict dimensional tolerances and design criteria.
- Product Development: Lead the physical assembly and iterative testing of new products and manufacturing processes.
- Equipment Management: Assemble, disassemble, and relocate manufacturing equipment as needed to optimize workflow for new product lines.
- Safety & Compliance: Operate all machinery and tools safely and in strict accordance with company policies and OSHA standards.
Required Skills & Abilities
- Software: Proficiency in CAD/CAM software.
- Machining: Strong familiarity with manual machining processes.
- Welding: Working knowledge of MIG/TIG welding applications.
- Technical Sourcing: Proven ability to research and procure specialized materials and components (e.g., gears, injection-molded parts, custom hardware) required for new product development.
- Mathematics: Proficient in shop math and geometric dimensioning.
- Technical Literacy: Ability to interpret complex equipment manuals and technical specifications.
- Collaboration: Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, results-oriented team environment.
- Physical Stamina: Ability to stand/walk for 8–10 hours per day and lift up to 50 lbs.
Required Education & Experience
- Experience: 2+ years of relevant experience in machining or fabrication preferred.
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent. A technical degree in Machining, Drafting, or a related field is highly preferred.
