Door Staff | Friday & Saturday Evenings Required
About Bar America
Bar America is a locally owned San Antonio bar located in the heart of Southtown. Originally established in 1942, we're a longtime neighborhood bar with a loyal following, a diverse crowd, and a mix of regulars, tourists, game-day crowds, and busy downtown weekends.
We're currently looking for a dependable, level-headed person to join our door team on Friday and Saturday evenings.
About the Job
Our door staff are more than just security. You're often the first and last person our guests interact with, and you play an important role in setting the tone for the entire bar.
We're looking for someone who can be friendly, welcoming, and comfortable interacting with all kinds of people while also being observant and confident enough to handle difficult situations when they come up.
The ideal person for this position knows how to read a room. You can engage in friendly conversation with guests, but you're paying attention to what's happening around you. You know when something feels off, when someone has had too much to drink, and when a situation needs to be addressed before it becomes a bigger problem.
Bar or service industry experience is required for this position. Previous security or door experience is absolutely a plus, but working the door at a busy bar requires a different approach than traditional security. Hospitality, awareness, and de-escalation come first. We're not looking for someone who wants to be aggressive or intimidating. We're looking for someone who understands a bar environment, can use good judgment, and knows how to handle situations calmly and professionally.
You must be available Friday AND Saturday evenings. Please do not apply if you are unavailable for either of these shifts.
This is a part-time position. There may also be opportunities for the right person to cross-train or pick up additional shifts at our other locations.
What You'll Be Doing
- Greeting guests and helping create a welcoming environment
- Checking valid IDs and monitoring entry
- Monitoring guests entering for signs of visible intoxication
- Staying aware of the flow and atmosphere of the bar
- Identifying and addressing potential issues before they escalate
- Calmly de-escalating difficult situations when possible
- Communicating clearly with bartenders and management
- Helping maintain a safe and comfortable environment for guests and staff
- Assisting with closing side work, including sweeping, mopping, taking out trash, and general cleaning duties

We're a small crew, but we're a strong one. We work hard, look out for each other, and want to bring on someone who will be a positive addition to the team.
