Class Act Match Consulting provides high-level strategic guidance alongside document development and editing services. We are seeking a surgical USMD or DO to join our team as a Residency Application Consultant & Interview Preparation Coach.
PC/E Structure: As a physician consultant (PC), you will work closely with applicants and a Class Act editor (E) to develop a cohesive, well-positioned application strategy.
Minimum Training: PGY-3 or higher in General Surgery or another surgical specialty, with the ability to provide residency application strategy and interview preparation guidance across surgical disciplines as needed.
Key Responsibilities
Residency Application Consulting
- Provide guidance on the residency application process, including MyERAS CV development and personal statement outlining, review, and feedback.
- Review and provide feedback on written materials in collaboration with editors, ensuring alignment with applicant goals and program expectations.
- Advise applicants on positioning, strengths, and overall application strategy.
- Support applicants in navigating ERAS, NRMP, and the broader residency application process.
Interview Preparation (IV Prep)
- Help applicants develop clear, confident responses to common and specialty-specific interview questions.
- Guide applicants on communication style, professionalism, and interview presence.
- Conduct mock interviews and provide structured, actionable feedback.
- Assist with program-specific preparation and targeted practice based on prior interview performance.
Qualifications
- United States MD or DO graduate with completed or near-complete (entering PGY-3) surgical residency training
- Experience mentoring, teaching, or advising medical students or residents
- Strong understanding of the residency application process, particularly within surgical fields
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to provide clear, structured, and actionable feedback
- Ability to manage multiple applicants and deadlines simultaneously
- Professional, reliable, and detail-oriented, with a high standard for quality
Key Dates & Commitments
- June-July: Paid training + transition to client work, 3–5 hours per week
- July–September: Peak application season, 6–12 hours per week
- September–January: Interview preparation coaching, 3–8 hours per week
Compensation
For CV/Personal Statement package clients, payout begins at $400 per package, which includes:
- Thorough review of CV Experience List & Personal Statement Development documents
- CV planning and personal statement brainstorming/outlining
- 1x 60-minute CV + personal statement consultation via Zoom
- Ongoing guidance and advising support
- Review of edited first and final drafts
Add-On 60-Minute Consults: Clients may purchase additional consulting time to discuss their CV/PS documents or for IV Prep. Payout starts at $95 per 1-hour session.
Interview Preparation: Many clients add Interview Preparation (sold as a bundle of 3 sessions) to their CV/Personal Statement packages. Payout begins at $95 per session x3 = $285. IV Prep includes:
- 3x one-hour focused interview prep sessions
- Written feedback from IV Prep Coach to client
