Position Description:
Read Muskegon is seeking a highly organized, detail-oriented, and mission-driven individual to join our team as a part-time Development Assistant. This position is ideal for someone interested in building a career in nonprofit fundraising, communications, donor relations, or community engagement.
The Development Assistant will play an important role in supporting Read Muskegon's fundraising and donor engagement efforts while gaining hands-on experience in nonprofit development. Working closely with the Director of Development, this position offers opportunities to learn about donor stewardship, event planning, database management, fundraising strategy, and nonprofit operations. This position is 16 hours per week (2 days/week).
Position Duties and Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Director of Development, the Development Assistant will have the following
job responsibilities:
- Process donations, pledges, and other gifts, ensuring timely and accurate gift entry and recordkeeping
- Prepare and coordinate donor acknowledgments, thank-you letters, and other stewardship communications
- Assist with donor research and prospect tracking
- Support the Director of Development in maintaining donor cultivation and stewardship calendars
- Assist with planning and implementation of fundraising events, donor recognition activities, and engagement initiatives
- Support event logistics, including registrations, communications, volunteer coordination, and follow-up activities
- Assist with the preparation of fundraising materials, reports, presentations, and donor communications
- Generate routine reports from the donor database and help track fundraising progress
- Support social media, communications, and storytelling efforts related to fundraising initiatives, as needed
- Provide administrative support for development projects and special initiatives
- Collaborate with staff to ensure a positive and consistent experience for donors, volunteers, and community partners
- Perform other duties as assigned in support of Read Muskegon's mission and fundraising goals
Education, Skills & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree is desired
- Experience in nonprofit fundraising is desired, including annual giving, database management, and event planning or equivalent experience from which comparable knowledge and skills are acquired
- Excellent verbal & written communication skills
- Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills
- Computer literacy, including competency in Microsoft Office, email, Internet, and other appropriate software
- Ability to speak effectively to donors, volunteers, board members and the public
- Ability to organize, multi-task and effectively function in a fast-paced environment to set and achieve short and long-term goals
- Ability to work independently under minimal supervision
- Reliable means of transportation
Pay: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour
