Our House Montessori is looking for a part-time assistant teacher to join our team of early childhood professionals in our toddler classroom. Our ideal candidate is that special type of person that loves working with toddlers, as strange and difficult as they may sometimes be. We take the opportunity to work with, and help develop, our youngest students very seriously and are looking for individuals that align with our school's philosophy and culture of fostering independence and a lifelong love of learning.
Prior Montessori experience is a definite plus, but not required.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
To assist the Lead Teacher in planning, organization and supervision of the toddler classroom environment in order to provide quality care that will be safe, enjoyable and enriching to children. Our ideal candidate loves working with young children, aged 18 months to 3 years old and has experience with or a desire to learn more about the Montessori philosophy. This part time position includes paid time off (PTO) as well as five weeks of fully paid closures throughout the year.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School graduate with at least 2 years of experience working with young children aged 3 and younger. Montessori experience a huge plus.
- Clear FBI fingerprint/criminal background checks
- Must have strong communication skills and be able to communicate effectively and respectfully with children as well as their parents.
- Have the physical capacity to work with young children in a Montessori environment. This includes lifting 30lbs, going on daily walks, and being able to engage with children on their level within the environment by sitting on the floor or crouching near the child.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Arrive punctually and ready to work, with the ability to be observant in the classroom environment and on outings.
- Observe and monitor children’s activities in the classroom, on the playground and while on outings.
- Assist and support with guidelines & disciplines for each individual child.
- Communicate child/classroom observations to the lead teacher.
- Assist the Lead Teacher in establishing and maintaining a peaceful environment by modeling respect and calm behavior.
- Help create and support a Montessori classroom culture, paying particular attention to the needs of the children and classroom climate.
- Participate in all school events, staff work/in-service days and parent teacher conferences.
- To perform activities, as directed by the Lead Teacher, such as: assist with drop off, pick up and nap transitions, assist with outings off school premises, assist with diaper changing, conduct Story Time & Circle Time, assist in preparing meals and snacks for the children
- To help organize, maintain and keep clean the classroom, bathroom and kitchen areas.
- To keep children’s information confidential.
- Maintain a safe & healthy school environment at all times.
- To meet with the lead teacher when necessary to discuss goals for the school, classroom environment and individual children and families
