Position Summary:
Under general administrative direction, to independently manage and oversee recreation programs, employees, and scheduled building programs; develop, coordinate, and supervise programs, activities, and events; develop and manage appropriate program budgets; and initiate, develop and lead new programs. Evening and weekend work required. To provide highly responsible staff assistance to the Director of Parks & Recreation; perform related work as assigned.
Essential Duties and Job Functions:

1. Work under the general supervision of the Parks and Recreation Director.
2. Excellent customer service and first point of contact with general public both in-person and over the phone.
3. Design and lead recreation programs for all ages.
4. Organize and efficiently manage, check-in, setup, clean up, and oversee regularly scheduled building programs and activities alone and with coworkers. This may include opening the building in the morning and/or securing the building at the end of the night.
5. Routinely process program registrations as well as building and park rentals.
6. Participate in planning of new department activities, programs, events. This includes contacting third party vendors and local businesses.
7. Work events, evaluate programs, and discuss improvements; conducts research and prepares programming.
8. Supervises support staff and volunteers as needed.
9. Handling monetary transactions; ability to quickly and correctly make change; balancing cash drawer and reconciling transactions.
10. Create budgets for programs and program summary reports.
11. Assists in design and distribution of department marketing materials, particularly Canva.
12. Assists recreation programmers and operations manager in various day-to-day tasks including front desk and building operations.
13. Analytical ability, conceptual ability, logic and intuitive judgment must be applied on a daily basis.
14. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships, use good judgment, initiative and resourcefulness when dealing with other employees, professional contacts, and the public.
15. Represent the City of Tecumseh and the Parks and Recreation Department with a high level of integrity and professionalism.
16. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements include the following:
· Knowledge of sports and pertinent rules and procedures thereof or willingness to learn.
· Excellent customer service and experience in direct customer service.
· Thorough knowledge of modern office procedures and practices, and skill in applying them. For example, familiar with computers and Microsoft Office suite, Outlook and/or Microsoft 365, copier, scanner, and other software applications.
· Experience and enjoyment working with children and adults as an instructor, coach, mentor, etc.
· Possess CPR/First Aid/AED certification or willingness to obtain.
· Knowledge of the structure, policies, procedures, and regulations of municipal government.
· Ability to effectively communicate ideas and concepts orally and in writing.
· Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and use good judgment, initiative and resourcefulness when dealing with other employees, professional contacts, and the public.
· Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions, problem-solve, multi-task and work effectively under stress, within deadlines and changes in work priorities.
· Ability to exercise a high degree of diplomacy in contentious or confrontational situations.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate with others in person and on the telephone. The employee is frequently required to review and produce written and computerized documents. The employee is required daily to access various locations within the office building. Also required is lifting and/or moving items up to 40lbs – e.g. reaching, bending, crouching, pushing a dust mop/broom, stacking and moving chairs, carrying program supplies to and from storage units, light snow shoveling as needed, etc.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in an office setting. The noise level in the work environment is occasionally quiet; however, interruptions and distracting influences (i.e. phone calls, people, noise, etc.) regularly occur in this environment. This job also requires the employee to work outside in a wide variety of weather and requires long periods of time standing, walking, and/or exposure to the elements; for example, site supervising activities, working events, clearing sidewalks of snow and salting walkways, etc.
Employment Classification, Work Days & Pay Rate:
Classified as regular, part-time employee. Normally scheduled to work year-round and work between 27-29 hours per week. After introductory period, eligible to earn paid time off (e.g. sick, vacation, holiday, etc.) at three-quarter the rate of a full-time employee.
Works days required are primarily weekdays; however, flexibility is required with evenings and weekends hours needed.
$15 - $17 per hour to start, depending on qualifications.
Pay: $15.00 - $17.00 per hour
