American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Pediatric Psychiatric Unit position requiring at least 1 year of behavioral health nursing experience and an active ME or Compact RN license.

Work in a freestanding acute inpatient psychiatric facility with a contracted ER located 5 minutes away
-
Pediatric psychiatric unit serving patients ages 5–18 with diagnoses including eating disorders, depression, suicidal ideation, anxiety, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, and gender dysphoria

All patients are medically cleared prior to admission; lines, drains, and tubes are not typically present

Facility accepts both voluntary and involuntary admissions; no forensic patients or inmates

Seclusion rooms are used when necessary; chemical restraints are not used
-
Night shift ratio is 1:13 with resource and nursing support; Psych Techs on nights: 2 for Peds, 2 for Adults

Floating required between all units, including adult and pediatric

Schedule is modified self-scheduling; travelers sign up for preferred shifts, which are reviewed and adjusted by the manager/scheduler

Night shift: 7PM–7AM, 36 hours per week

Every other weekend rotation (Saturday and Sunday)

No on-call requirements

Charting via Cerner; medications dispensed via Pyxis

Active ME or Compact RN license required
-
BLS certification required
-
Minimum 1 year of behavioral health nursing experience required

Pediatric behavioral health experience preferred; candidates without it may be considered with manager approval

Experience with de-escalation techniques and physical restraints required
-
Comfortable with medication passes, running groups, and clinical documentation
-
Must have a permanent address 100+ miles south/southwest of the facility to qualify for travel rates

Candidates must not have previously worked at any Northern Light Health Hospital in a permanent capacity

2 professional references within the past year required, at least one from a supervisor, manager, director, or charge nurse (no peer references)

Flu vaccination required for clearance to start

MOAB (Management of Aggressive Behavior) certification is obtained on-site during orientation and is not required prior to starting

Orientation consists of the first week (Mon–Fri) on day shift, followed by the second week on the contracted night shift schedule
-
Facility offers specialized therapeutic programming including pet therapy, group sessions, and community gardens
-
In the event of a patient escalation, a designated 'code leader' verbally de-escalates while assigning roles to other staff; travelers may serve in this role and are expected to complete a debriefing form afterward

Scenario-based de-escalation training is held every other week; a MOAB Educator/Trainer is on site

Support staff includes a Nurse Supervisor (evenings/weekends), House Administrator (overnight/weekends), Charge Nurse, Psych Techs, contracted Phlebotomist, NP (on-site until 4PM, on-call overnight), Psychiatrist (daily rounds and on-call midnight–6AM), and Occupational Therapist (8AM–4:30PM, 7 days/week)

Security is on site but does not respond to patient escalations; all staff across units respond to escalations

Holiday coverage required on a rotating basis

RTO of up to 7 days may be approved; contract must be extended if unable to complete all shifts in a given week

Scrubs must be any solid color and professional in appearance
