Tom’s Diamonds is a private jewelry service based in North Scottsdale, Arizona, that connects clients directly with the jewelry industry. By cutting out the middlemen, we offer diamonds straight from major dealers at better value while delivering a truly personalized custom design experience.
We are seeking a talented and detail-oriented Jewelry CAD Designer to work with us on a contract, as-needed basis.
Compensation
Compensation is negotiable and determined on a per-project basis depending on the complexity and scope of each design job. Pay details will be discussed during the interview process.
About the Role
You will transform client visions, sketches, and designer concepts into precise, production-ready 3D CAD models as projects arise. This role helps bring our custom jewelry to life — from engagement rings and bridal pieces to bold, one-of-a-kind statement jewelry.
Key Responsibilities
- Create detailed 3D CAD models for rings, pendants, earrings, bracelets, and complex custom pieces using jewelry-specific CAD software
- Collaborate remotely with our designers, sales team, and bench jewelers to refine designs for aesthetics, structural integrity, gemstone settings, and flawless execution
- Produce technical drawings, high-quality renderings, and specifications ready for casting, stone setting, and finishing
- Modify and optimize designs based on client feedback while maintaining tight tolerances and high standards for precious metals and diamonds
- Maintain organized digital files and stay current with jewelry design trends and CAD best practices
Requirements
- Proficiency in Rhino and/or MatrixGold (or equivalent jewelry CAD software) is required
- Strong portfolio showcasing custom jewelry CAD work, including intricate stone settings (pavé, prongs, bezels, etc.) and complex, one-of-a-kind designs
- Solid understanding of fine jewelry manufacturing processes, materials, gemology basics, and design-for-production principles
- Excellent attention to detail combined with a creative eye for timeless yet innovative pieces
- Reliable high-speed internet and a quiet, professional remote workspace
- Ability to work independently while communicating effectively with a remote team
- Prior experience in fine or custom jewelry is strongly preferred
