BASIC FUNCTION
The Mobile Unit Dental Hygienists conduct oral examinations, serve as a preventative care specialist, and provide educational, clinical, and therapeutic services supporting total health and promoting optimal oral health.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES

Review patient's electronic dental record, update medical histories, obtain Request for Information forms and contact appropriate physician offices for information regarding the patient’s health.

Provide clinical oral health services according to organizational guidelines any instructions from the patient’s personal physician.

Conduct initial soft tissue examination, including oral cancer screening, to identify oral health concerns like periodontal disease or potential tooth decay. Expose and process dental x-rays and alert the dentist to observations.

Perform oral prophylaxis, scaling and polishing to remove plaque, calculus, and stains from tooth surfaces. Apply cavity prevention agents such as fluorides and pit and fissure sealants.

Educate patients on proper diet, proper brushing and flossing technique, and the use of special home care instruments such as dentures, flossing threaders, and interdental brushes. Demonstrate and explain the proper care of dentures and bridges and explain the causes of dental cavities and gum disease and its prevention. Clarify health questions and summarize dental findings of the exam and explain recommended treatment.

Record treatment performed and treatment plan prescribed by the dentist after patient visit. Maintain accurate dental records and documentation on each patient’s chart.

As necessary, assist clinical support team by seating patients, cleaning, packaging, and sterilizing instruments, setting up trays for dental procedures, screening emergency patients, removing sutures, taking impressions, making models, and chair side assisting.

Complete other duties as assigned by supervisor.
TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is performed in a dental clinical office environment. Requires frequent contact with staff and the public. Frequently exposed to blood, toxic of caustic chemicals. Frequent exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, and other conditions common to a clinic environment. Work may be stressful at times.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
Routine travel with the mobile unit through the academic year. Will provide all-location float coverage (as assigned) outside of academic calendar.
WORK HOURS
7:00am-5:00pm, Monday - Thursday. Off on Fridays. 37.5 hours per week.
SALARY
$32.50 - $46.23 per hour, based on experience. Position is subject to wage and hour laws.

JOB REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Education: Completion of a Commission of Dental Accreditation (CODA) Associate’s Degree in Dental Hygiene.
Minimum Work Experience: None required, however preference given to candidates with dental office experience.
Required License: Current Dental Hygiene License issued by the Kentucky Board of Dentistry. American Heart Association Basic Life Support Certification.

Successful applicants will be able to evaluate services, assess needs, and make recommendations regarding quality and efficient workflow patterns. Will have a willingness and desire to work as a productive member of health care team and the ability to communicate effectively with team members and patients alike. A flexible individual, willing to acknowledge and respect the cultural and social background of White House Clinics patients. Some knowledge of the operation of a primary care center is desirable. Knowledge of dental office procedures, basic computer skills, and patient flow in a primary care setting is preferred. Position requires skills in verbal and written communication, multi-tasking as well as proficiency in time management and organizational skills.
