Medical Assistant / Interventional Psychiatry Technician
Part-Time | Asheville, NC | $18–$23/hour, depending on experience
Aether Interventional Psychiatry is seeking a compassionate, reliable Medical Assistant / Interventional Psychiatry Technician to join our growing clinical team.
Aether is an outpatient psychiatric practice specializing in both traditional and interventional mental health care. Our services include transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), Spravato® (esketamine), IV and IM ketamine, ketamine-assisted psychotherapy, medication management, and psychotherapy.
Many of our patients are living with severe, complex, or treatment-resistant mental health conditions, including depression, PTSD, and OCD. This position requires more than strong clinical skills and attention to detail. It requires patience, emotional steadiness, compassion, and the ability to build relationships with people who may be struggling significantly.
As an Interventional Psychiatry Technician, you will be an integral part of our clinical team and involved in direct patient care every day. You will work closely with providers, prescribers, and care coordination staff while developing meaningful relationships with patients throughout their course of treatment.
For example, during a typical course of TMS treatment, you may spend time one-on-one with the same patient five days a week for six weeks. That is a significant opportunity to help create a safe, supportive treatment experience for someone going through a difficult period in their life.
What You’ll Do
- Administer TMS treatments following comprehensive training and established clinical protocols
- Obtain and accurately document patient vital signs
- Monitor patients during Spravato treatment sessions according to established REMS and clinic protocols
- Prepare treatment spaces for TMS, Spravato, and ketamine sessions
- Support the clinical team during IV and IM ketamine treatments as needed and within the scope of the position
- Monitor patient comfort and promptly communicate concerns to licensed clinical staff
- Accurately document treatment sessions and clinical observations in the electronic health record
- Clean, restock, and prepare treatment spaces between patients
- Assist providers and care coordination staff with patient flow and daily clinical operations
- Maintain treatment room readiness and assist with supply inventory
- Follow HIPAA, infection control, safety, controlled substance documentation, and clinic protocols
- Work collaboratively with team members across both Asheville locations
What We’re Looking For
- Medical Assistant training or relevant clinical experience; CMA, CNA, EMT, or similar healthcare experience preferred
- Experience obtaining and accurately documenting vital signs
- CPR/BLS certification preferred or willingness to obtain certification
- Genuine comfort working with patients experiencing severe or complex mental health conditions
- Patience, compassion, and emotional steadiness when supporting patients who may be anxious, distressed, or highly sensitive
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Excellent attention to detail and the ability to follow established clinical protocols
- Ability to multitask, stay organized, and adapt in a busy clinical environment
- Reliability, professionalism, and a collaborative approach to teamwork
- Comfort working at both of our Asheville locations
Preferred Experience
Previous experience in psychiatry, behavioral health, outpatient medicine, urgent care, infusion services, procedural care, or another specialty clinical setting is a strong plus.
Experience with medication administration and electronic health records is also preferred.
Prior experience with TMS or Spravato is not required. We will provide specialized training to the right candidate.
