Lawrence Group’s St. Louis office is seeking a diligent and detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our accounting team. The Staff Accountant will play a crucial role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of our financial records, supporting month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities, and assisting with various financial reporting tasks. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in accounting principles, exceptional analytical skills, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
Position Responsibilities:
- Perform general ledger (GL) account reconciliations to ensure accuracy and completeness of financial data.
- Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities, including journal entries, balance sheet account reconciliations, accruals, and maintenance of operational management GL accounts.
- Maintain and update records and reports related to profit and loss (P&L), liabilities, and fixed assets (FA).
- Prepare and file sales and use tax returns and remittances
- Prepare special financial reports as requested by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing account information and trends.
- Assist with bi-weekly payroll processing activities to ensure timely and accurate employee compensation.
- Coordinate with the firm’s compliance service provider to track, prepare, and file firm license renewals, state registrations, and annual corporate reports, maintaining the firm’s good standing in every jurisdiction.
- Manage credit card entry and payment processing to reconcile transactions and maintain compliance with company policies.
- Provide support to the Controller and Chief Financial Officer (CFO) for all tax and audit compliance requirements, including gathering necessary documentation and assisting with audit inquiries.
Professional Skills/Knowledge:
Required:
- 1-3 years of professional accounting experience
- Proficient knowledge of accounting and corporate finance principles and procedures
- Strong organizational, multi-tasking and problem-solving skills with the ability to focus and effectively.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of company and client information
- Desire for professional growth with exceptional customer service, communication, and collaboration skills
- Adaptability to changing priorities, approaches, and deadlines with flexibility to occasionally offer support outside regular business hours.
Preferred:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting business or finance
- Vantagepoint experience a plus
- Quickbooks experience a plus
- PEO payroll experience (Insperity or similar) a plus
- Knowledge of GAAP
- Microsoft Excel Intermediate to Advanced level skillset
- Experience in the AEC industry preferred
Supervisory Responsibility:
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Work Environment
This job operates in a professional office environment with hybrid schedule capability. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
Physical Demands
This position requires no minimum ability to lift, bend or stand.
