Optician Responsibilities
- Provides exceptional patient service
- Answers phones and schedules appointments
- Greets and welcomes patients to the practice
- Performs examination pretesting
- Trains patients how to wear contact lenses
- Assists doctor with patients as needs arise
- Record patient data in practice management software
- Collects and records patient payments
- Works with patients to find eyewear that meets their needs
- Accurately records patient eyewear measurements
- Orders eyewear, checks for accuracy when orders are received
- Dispenses eyewear while ensuring proper fitting and adjusts as needed
- Manages office inventory and optical ordering
- Troubleshoots patients eyewear concerns
- Other duties as needed
Qualifications
- One or more years of experience as a licensed optician in an optometric practice
- Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills
- Hardworking, reliable & flexible
- Proficient with computer use including scanning, importing/exporting documents, email, Microsoft Word & comfort using an electronic medical records/scheduling system.
- Strong attention to detail, strong organizational skills & ability to multitask.
- Must comply with HIPAA confidentiality standards when communicating patient information
- Communication skills and the ability to coordinate and cooperate with all levels of employees in a courteous, professional manner at all times
- Desire to gain industry knowledge and training
- Demonstrates initiative in accomplishing practice goals
- Flexibility in your schedule to meet the needs of the business
Education and / or Experience:
- Minimum Required: High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
- Preferred: One year of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
