Job Duties and Preferred Qualifications:
This position is an Office Assistant within the Detective Bureau of the Police Department reporting to an Office Supervisor. The primary function of this position is to provide administrative support to the Crime Solver’s Program*. However, this position will also provide general support to the bureau comprised of approximately 110 employees. Additional duties include:

assisting with answering incoming calls and greeting visitors in the Detective Bureau;

creating/distributing daily and weekend line-ups;
-
entering data into various police systems;
-
responding to the online Crime Line tips and researching information via police automated systems and passing on to the appropriate individual or agency for follow-up;
-
coordinating with investigators to determine the status of their investigation and if additional information is needed from tipsters;
-
maintaining tip files;
-
maintaining statistics for the program and related reports;
-
setting up equipment and PowerPoint presentation at the monthly Crime Solver’s board meetings;
-
notarizing various documents as needed;
-
and performing other related tasks as necessary.
- Crime Solver’s is a non-profit organization established in 1982 with the mission of solving and preventing crime through a partnership with citizens, media and the criminal justice system. Crime Solver’s utilizes a telephone tip line (1-888-LOCK-U-UP) to solicit anonymous information. Anonymous tips to Crime Solvers have resulted in more than 8,400 arrests and more than 17,389 solved crimes since 1982 and has paid out over $1,300,000 in cash rewards to tipsters. The work schedule is Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with a half hour lunch. There are required meetings/events outside normal working hours several times a year with board meetings once a month at 7:00 a.m. and the ability to attend events several times a year outside of normal working hours.

Special Instructions:
Please provide detailed information in your application, resume and cover letter regarding your interaction with internal/external customers, your proficiency in using Microsoft Office software (including Excel) and your experience performing transcription work.
Successful completion of a police background investigation.
CJIS/VCIN/NCIC certification is required, in addition to the successful completion of a background check, candidates must have U.S. citizenship or be a lawful resident of the United States and eligible for naturalization.
Requires a passing score on a typing test of 40 wpm with 90% accuracy, and a passing score on a transcription test.
Candidates selected for an opportunity to interview will be required to complete a practical exercise prior to their interview.
All employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies.

Minimum Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications: High school or GED plus one (1) year of experience in fields providing the required knowledge, skills, and abilities, such as clerical or office assistant; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
