Program Overview:
Education and Employment Services is an 8.2 million dollar division serving about 9000 people each year through a continuum of services from Early Childhood Education through Adult Workforce programs designed to assist individuals in obtaining the skills necessary for lifetime self-sufficiency. Education Services include an Early Learn Program, After-School Programs (6 sites), 4 Day Camps, Youth Recreation, High School Initiatives including 2 Community Schools, and our Expanded Horizons College Success Program. Programming takes place within 3 community center sites and multiple school-based programs. Employment Services include walk-in employment services, employment services for a public housing population, ESL job readiness training, and employment services for youth including SYEP and Young Adult Internship and Adult Literacy Programs.
Position Summary:
The College Success Coordinator supports the Expanded Horizons College Success Program by providing individualized academic, career, and financial aid guidance to first-generation and historically underserved college students. This role is responsible for helping students successfully transition to, persist through, and graduate from college by delivering comprehensive coaching, coordinating workshops and career development opportunities, and connecting students with campus and community resources. The College Success Coordinator builds strong relationships with students, higher education institutions, and community partners while tracking student progress, supporting scholarship administration, and contributing to program outcomes and reporting. Working collaboratively with the Expanded Horizons team, this position plays a key role in advancing educational equity and empowering young adults to achieve long-term academic, career, and personal success.
Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree required with preference given to education and human services related fields

Minimum of three (2) years’ experience in academic, college success, or career counseling with college aged youth. Experience with navigating CUNY and SUNY systems and northeast private colleges

Familiarity with the college application process and financial aid forms (FAFSA, TAP and CSS profile)
-
Strong commitment to supporting the academic achievement and access to higher education of young adults who are low income, immigrants and/or will be the first in their families to attend college

Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with a team
-
Knowledge of and/or active participation in local, state, and national college success associations
-
Understand intersectionality as it pertains to race, gender, class, privilege and other identities

Demonstrate understanding of and practice the principles of positive youth development
-
Willingness to work both independently and as a member of a team

Excellent interpersonal, communication, and writing and presentation skills

Exceptional organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills

Knowledge of the financial, academic, and social skills necessary to be successful in college

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Google Suite, and Microsoft Outlook

Bilingual Spanish or Mandarin a plus
Responsibilities:

Collaborate in developing and implementing curricula for workshops focused on topics relevant to first-generation college students transitioning to college

Coordinate and implement career events for college students
-
Participate in the planning and execution of the annual Expanded Horizons Scholarship Ceremony

Support with the coordination, management and dissemination of the student scholarships
-
Support in the development of a college success and career programming strategy
-
Co-lead the coordination and/or facilitation of transition workshops
-
Build strong and authentic relationships with students attending various post-secondary institutions to provide them with personalized guidance and coaching on academic and non-academic issues that may prevent them from persisting through college

Conduct face-to-face or virtual meetings with college students at least once per semester
-
Ability to advise Expanded Horizons college students through all aspects of the financial aid process
-
Research and share information on scholarships, internships and networking opportunities
-
Travel monthly to CUNY colleges and quarterly to various northeast cities/regions to meet with Expanded Horizons college students
-
Contribute to anecdotal and quantitative data for quarterly and funder reports
-
Collect and track transcripts, course selections, social media, and contact information to ensure student matriculation and progress towards college graduation

Track and report on all meetings with Expanded Horizons college students

Build partnerships and effective relationships with college administrative, career services, financial aid, and other offices to advocate for students and assist them in reaching their goals

Proactively build relationships with academic advisors, academic success programs, opportunity programs, financial aid officers, and deans at various colleges to loop students into support services at their schools

Stay current on the latest trends in college success and persistence in higher education.
