MedScript LTC Pharmacy is looking for an IV Pharmacy Technician to join our team! MedScript is a long term care pharmacy that provides medications to patients in nursing homes, assisted living facilities, rehab centers, group homes, and other licensed healthcare facilities. The IV Technician is responsible for accurately and efficiently producing compounded medication orders following detailed recipes utilizing both sterile and non-sterile technique under the direction and supervision of a pharmacist.
Available shift:
The primary purpose of this position is to ensure compliance with federal and state laws, regulations, and rules related to long term care pharmacy. We ensure the highest quality standards of practice for our long term care facilities. The IV Technician is responsible for a variety of tasks such as data entry, inventory of drugs & supplies, monthly & daily cleaning of room & equipment, and compounding sterile and non-sterile products. The IV Technician will assist with the day-to-day functions required in the department and will report to the IV Department Manager while also working under the supervision of a pharmacist.
Primary Duties:
· Read and follow compounding instructions for sterile and non-sterile products
· Mix and compound medication precisely, following a written and/or verbal recipe
· Accurately measure and mix ingredients
· Properly demonstrate and utilize sterile technique for medication preparation
· Maintain necessary records and logs of processes performed during daily tasks
· Follow procedures to perform daily & monthly cleaning of compounding room equipment
· Maintain proper inventory of all compounding supplies including drugs, diluents, and miscellaneous supplies
· Follow established inventory procedures and manage out-of-stock issues
· Identify quality related errors and correct these issues as necessary
· Perform data-entry tasks such as entering prescriptions and patient information
Miscellaneous Duties:
· Maintain a neat and orderly work area
· Present a positive attitude and professional appearance
· Other duties as assigned
Minimum Requirements:
· High School Diploma or equivalent required
· Active Indiana Pharmacy Tech License
· Ability to work a rotating schedule including every other weekend
· Ability to work overtime, as needed
Preferred Experience:
· Compounding or IV pharmacy experience
· Two years pharmacy technician experience
· Framework & ECM experience
Qualifications:
· Basic math skills required to calculate proper daily/monthly quantities needed
· Basic computer skills required with general understanding of Microsoft programs (Excel, Word, Outlook)
· Above average reading skills required to understand drug product labels and written mandatory procedures and instructions
· Above average writing and spelling skills required to legibly record necessary information onto batch production records for permanent records
· Minor mechanical ability necessary to perform daily and weekly maintenance procedures
· Self-motivation and the ability to work effectively in an independent environment and as part of team
· Team-player mentality; ability to work closely with others
· Excellent communication skills
· Detail oriented
· Ability to work at an established production speed with minimal supervision
· Ability to work in clean room garb including hair nets, facemasks, gowns, gloves, and shoe covers
