Duties
- Assist with patient intake procedures, including recording vital signs, medical history, and current medications
- Prepare examination rooms and ensure all necessary supplies and equipment are sterile and ready for use
- Perform phlebotomy procedures and collect laboratory specimens with accuracy and care
- Support physicians during examinations and procedures in outpatient, inpatient, or emergency settings
- Administer medications under supervision, including injections and basic medication management
- Document patient encounters thoroughly using electronic health records (EHR/EHR systems) while adhering to HIPAA regulations
- Manage medical records efficiently, ensuring proper filing, retrieval, and confidentiality of sensitive information
- Support hospital medicine or trauma center teams by assisting with patient monitoring and documentation in high-acuity environments
- Conduct ICD coding for diagnoses to facilitate billing processes accurately
- Assist with medical documentation related to dermatology, geriatrics, or specialized care units
- Provide exemplary patient service by addressing concerns professionally and ensuring a welcoming environment
- Support medical office management tasks such as scheduling appointments, verifying insurance information, and managing patient flow
- Maintain knowledge of physiology, anatomy, pharmacology, and medical terminology to support clinical duties effectively
Requirements
- Proven experience as a Medical Assistant with exposure to outpatient clinics, hospital medicine, or emergency departments
- Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems such as Epic or Cerner; proficiency in electronic health records management is essential
- Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) required; additional certifications in phlebotomy or medication administration are advantageous
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- Experience working within Level I or Level II trauma centers is preferred; inpatient experience is highly valued
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail in documentation and clinical procedures
- Excellent communication skills tailored for diverse patient populations across various healthcare environments
- Ability to adapt quickly in fast-paced settings such as urgent care or hospital units while maintaining professionalism
- Must have Medical Assistant diploma, certification or registration.
