American Traveler is seeking an experienced ICU RN for a 13-week night shift travel contract at a Level III Trauma acute care facility in Council Bluffs, IA, requiring ICU experience with drips and vents.

16-bed ICU in an acute care hospital setting designated as a Level III Trauma Center
-
Medical ICU patient population including sepsis, respiratory failure, stroke, MI, DKA, STEMI, A-fib with RVR, PE, COPD exacerbation, and COVID
-
Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:2, which may stretch to 1:3
-
RNs are required to titrate drips including vasopressors and sedation (e.g., levophed, neosynephrine, cardene, precedex, propofol)
-
RNs must be able to read and verify telemetry strips; centralized monitor techs are available remotely
-
Draeger telemetry monitors are used on the unit
-
Ventilators, BiPAP, and other RT equipment are managed by Respiratory Therapy; RNs are not required to make adjustments beyond troubleshooting

Respiratory Therapy is shared with the ER and is not in the ICU 24/7
-
Hospitalist is in-house 24/7; intensivist is in-house during day hours and available via telemedicine at night

Charge nurse is present on each shift and carries a patient assignment
-
No nurse aides or patient care techs on the unit

EMR: Epic experience required

12-hour night shifts, 6:30 PM – 7:00 AM
-
Every third weekend required
-
Holiday coverage required: 4th of July

No on-call or standby requirement
-
Floating required to lower levels of care including PCU and Med/Surg; training provided (1 orientation shift for ICU, 1 for PCU)

Active IA RN license or Compact (NLC) RN license currently in hand; pending licenses will not be accepted

Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required; PALS and TNCC preferred; pending certifications not accepted

Minimum 2 years of ICU experience preferred

Experience with drips, ventilators, and BiPAP required
-
Ability to titrate vasopressors and sedation drips required

Ability to read and verify telemetry strips required

Previous travel nursing experience preferred

Valid driver's license required for consideration (used to verify residence outside the 50-mile radius)

Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months worked, and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years worked; references must include dates of employment and eligibility for rehire

Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility; driver's license is used to verify permanent address

Candidates who have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facility within the past year are not eligible; candidates who worked PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered

Navy blue scrubs required

A pass/fail open-book exam on unit skills is administered during orientation; a minimum score of 90% is required to pass

Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care departments; refusal to remove them will result to contract termination

All requested time off (RTO) must be submitted upfront; additional RTO will not be approved after consideration
