- Develop and implement comprehensive lesson plans aligned with curriculum standards, incorporating best practices in instructional design and learning technology
- Deliver engaging lessons on civics, history, geography, and related social studies topics using AP style and Chicago Manual of Style guidelines for instructional materials
- Incorporate creative writing, journalism, and research components to enhance student literacy and analytical skills
- Assess student progress through standardized testing, formative assessments, and project-based evaluations; provide timely feedback to support growth
- Foster a positive classroom environment through effective classroom management, behavior management techniques, and differentiated instruction for diverse learners including those in special education or Montessori settings
- Mentor students in developing critical thinking, research skills, and civic engagement through extracurricular activities or club sponsorships
- Collaborate with colleagues on curriculum development, instructional strategies, and school-wide initiatives; participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with education trends
Experience
- Prior classroom experience teaching social studies or civics at the middle or high school level is required
- Demonstrated expertise in curriculum development, instructional design, and lesson planning across multiple social sciences disciplines
- Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds; familiarity with private school environments is a plus
- Strong communication skills for effective collaboration with staff, students, and parents; organizational skills to manage multiple responsibilities efficiently
- Knowledge of learning technology tools such as digital platforms for instruction, assessment software, and library services for research purposes
- Background in higher education teaching or tutoring in related fields such as linguistics, journalism, or education administration enhances candidacy
- Experience with standardized testing preparation, literacy education strategies, and behavior management techniques is highly desirable
