Job Description
GENERAL SUMMARY: Applies basic welding processes to join, fabricate metal, or other weld-able materials; works under direct supervision; performs additional duties as assigned. Pay based on experience, Flux Core and Stick required. Must be able to pass 3 Position Plate Test if hired.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Applies basic welding processes to join, fabricate, or repair parts of metal or other weld able materials.
2. Works from blueprints, engineering sketches, or work orders.
3. May lay out and mark points on parts subassemblies or templates.
4. May position pieces to be welded into jigs, holding fixtures, guides, and steps using measuring instruments and hand tools.
5. Performs all work in accordance with established safety procedures.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
1. Typically requires 3 years or more of related experience.
2. Requires a High School Diploma or GED.
3. Technical or Vocational training preferred.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
1. Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
2. Knowledge of basic welding procedures and tools.
3. Knowledge of welding techniques, and physical properties of metal.
WORKING CONDITIONS: The work is typically performed in a shop environment, shipyards, and client facilities, which requires proper safety equipment and precautions; work requires moderate physical effort in the handling of materials, boxes, tools, or equipment.
