Handy, dependable, and at home around animals? We'd love to meet you.
About Us
The Lilypad Schools is a nature-based early childhood and elementary education community in San Antonio, with Farm, Garden, and Nursery campuses. Our days are spent outdoors among gardens, animals, and play spaces, and the people who keep our grounds and facilities running are a big part of what makes that possible. If you take pride in hands-on work and want it to mean something, you will fit right in here.
The Role
We are looking for a reliable, hardworking person to help keep our grounds, facilities, and barn areas clean, safe, and well maintained across our campuses. This is a hands on, primary outdoor role that mixes landscaping, simple repairs, and animal area help. You will be working in a setting where young children are present, so dependability and a safety-first mindset matter as much as the work itself.
What You Will Do
Grounds and landscaping:
- Mowing, weed-wacking, edging, mulching, and general landscape upkeep
- Watering gardens and planted areas, refreshing playgrounds and pathways, and keeping sandboxes and play areas ready
Simple maintenance and repairs:
- Basic plumbing fixes such as unclogging toilets and drains
- Minor carpentry and general handyman repairs
- Repairing and maintaining gates and fences
- Everyday upkeep and small fixes around the campuses as needed
Barn and animal help:
- Assisting with feeding, watering, mucking, and cleaning animal areas
- Helping secure animals and keep barn areas tidy, following the standards set by our animal care team
General:
- Keeping tools and equipment clean, fueled, and properly stored
- Following the daily and weekly schedule and pitching in on seasonal and event needs
What We Are Looking For
- Reliable and punctual, with strong follow-through
- Available to work weekends (Saturday and Sunday) plus a couple of weekdays, 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM
- Comfortable working outdoors in Texas weather and around farm animals
- Basic repair skills: simple plumbing, minor carpentry, fence and gate work
- Able to lift and carry, bend, and stay active throughout the day
- Safety-minded, especially around young children
- Must be 18 or older
- Must pass a background check and fingerprinting (required for our licensed childcare setting)
- Valid driver's license is a plus
Schedule and Pay
- $14 to $17 per hour, depending on experience
- Schedule is 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM. This role covers weekend barnyard shifts: Saturday and Sunday are required, plus a couple of weekdays.
- Work performed on site across our San Antonio campuses
Why You Will Like It Here
You will spend your days in a beautiful farm-and-garden setting, doing varied, meaningful work for a community that values it. No two days look exactly the same, and the work you do directly supports the children and families we serve.
