Barista – Virginia Highlands
About the Job
Alon's Bakery & Market is seeking a friendly, energetic, and guest-focused Barista to join our Virginia Highlands team. As one of the first points of contact for our guests, you will play an important role in creating an exceptional experience by preparing handcrafted espresso beverages, providing knowledgeable recommendations, and delivering outstanding customer service.

Reports To: General Manager & Assistant Manager
Responsibilities
- Prepare high-quality espresso beverages, coffees, teas, and other café drinks according to company standards.
- Deliver exceptional hospitality by greeting guests, answering questions, and making thoughtful product recommendations.
- Develop a strong knowledge of our breads, pastries, desserts, prepared foods, cheeses, and specialty retail products.
- Accurately process guest transactions using the point-of-sale system.
- Support daily sales goals through suggestive selling and exceptional guest service.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked coffee station and café environment.
- Follow all opening, closing, and daily operational procedures.
- Assist with stocking, merchandising, and maintaining attractive product displays.
- Work collaboratively with bakery, kitchen, and front-of-house teams to ensure an outstanding guest experience.
- Follow all food safety, sanitation, and health department standards.
Qualifications
- 1–3 years of barista, coffee shop, bakery, café, or hospitality experience preferred.
- Previous experience preparing espresso beverages is strongly preferred.
- Outstanding guest service and communication skills.
- Ability to multitask and remain organized in a high-volume environment.
- Flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays as needed.
- Reliable, self-motivated, and able to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 30 pounds.
