As the Staff Mechanical Design Engineer, you will have a critical design role that includes modeling, release, and integration of assemblies within Power Electronics sub-systems. Specifically, you will be responsible for solid modeling design that includes plastic injection moldings, die-castings, and sheet metal components. You will work with cross-functional teams such as Vehicle Architecture, Manufacturing, and Electrical Engineering to design components per requirements and work collaboratively with suppliers to ensure high-volume production.
-
Model solid components and assemblies in Power Electronics and Battery Enclosure packaging using CATIA V6
-
Design enclosures and mechanical assemblies for Power Electronics that meet thermal, environmental, and EMC requirements
-
Create 2D prints of all the components by applying geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T)
-
Work with DREs (Design Responsible Engineer) to bring the mechanical packaging concepts to high-volume production parts
-
Assist engineers with executing 3D packaging studies of various design concepts and work with other engineers/designers in different functional teams
-
Participate in production manufacturing DFMs with suppliers and DREs, optimizing for high-volume manufacturing, while meeting all performance targets
-
Make necessary updates to existing 3D models and 2D drawings, iterating designs from proof of concept, prototype, to production
-
Generate assembly illustrations using CATIA and other office tools to help engineers establish proper assembly processes for DFA
-
Knowledge of BOM structure management, submitting components for release into ENOVIA PLM to support Design Release activities
-
Minimum 5 years of experience using Catia V5 or V6 preferred.
-
Experience in modeling die-casting, sheet metal stamping, and plastic injection molding from “clean sheet” for Electronic Packaging designs.
-
Employ "First Principles" to simplify complex systems into fundamental Free-Body Diagrams to resolve key mechanical failure points.
-
Experience and aptitude in prototype CNC machining, injection molding, die casting, sheet metal design, wiring harness design, and assembly
-
Knowledge of mechanical & electrical constraints for PCBAs involving collaboration with Packaging and Electrical Engineers
-
Experience in ENOVIA Product Lifecycle Management, block build changes, and BOM Structure.
