Community Engagement Coordinator (Part-time)
Title: Housing & Community Resources Coach (Not Exempt)
Reports to: Executive Director
Summary
The Community Engagement Coordinator builds meaningful connections between New Beginnings and local congregations, civic organizations, students, and other volunteers to include them in New Beginnings work. This part-time role is responsible for recruiting partners and organizing them to support our programs through shared meals, volunteer projects, and neighborhood gatherings. The role includes managing social media and participating in occasional outreach and awareness events as well.
The ideal candidate is relational, organized, welcoming, patient, and passionate about bringing people together. This person will serve as an ambassador for New Beginnings, helping community members understand our mission and find meaningful ways to participate.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership
● Bring a spirit of service, patience, creativity, and enthusiasm to support the success of residents at New Beginnings.
● Participate in creating a workplace that values diversity and is free of discriminatory attitudes and practices.
● Demonstrate a commitment to teamwork among New Beginnings’ staff and collaboration with community partners.
Organize Daily Community Meals
· Recruit and build relationships with congregations, civic organizations, community groups, and other partners interested in providing evening meals at New Beginnings.
· Coordinate meal schedules, communication, logistics, and expectations with participating groups.
· Welcome and orient meal volunteers when they arrive onsite.
· Maintain a calendar of meal commitments and follow up with community partners as needed.
· Provide ongoing training and cultivate relationships with groups to encourage continued involvement.
· Prepare a meal in the shelter neighborhood as needed, if a community partner cannot be found or does not come through.
Social Media & Community Communication
· Create and post engaging social media content that highlights New Beginnings’ mission, residents, volunteers, community partnerships, events, and impact.
· Gather photos, stories, and other content while maintaining appropriate privacy and dignity for residents.
· Coordinate with other staff to ensure content is accurate, timely, and aligned with New Beginnings’ mission and values.
Volunteer Engagement
· Develop and organize meaningful onsite volunteer opportunities for individuals, churches, businesses, and community groups.
· Schedule and coordinate volunteer groups, including communicating expectations and logistics before each visit.
· Host and welcome volunteers onsite, providing orientation and direction.
· Ensure volunteer experiences are organized, purposeful, and positive for both volunteers and New Beginnings residents.
· Maintain relationships with returning volunteers and identify opportunities for deeper engagement.
Social Night
· Plan and coordinate a monthly “Social Night” for residents and neighbors in the New Beginnings supportive housing neighborhood.
· Develop simple activities and gatherings that encourage connection, belonging, and positive relationships among neighbors.
· Recruit volunteers and community partners to assist with Neighbor Night activities when appropriate.
· Gather feedback and continually improve the experience based on resident and community input.
Qualifications
· Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
· Excellent communication and organizational skills.
· Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a team.
· Comfortable interacting with congregations, community organizations, volunteers, residents, and the general public.
· Experience with social media platforms and basic content creation.
· Ability to coordinate multiple schedules, events, and relationships.
· Warm, welcoming, and service-oriented personality.
· Commitment to the mission and values of New Beginnings and to treating every person with dignity and respect.
Preferred Qualifications
· Experience in community engagement, volunteer coordination, nonprofit work, church/community outreach, event planning, or a related field.
· Experience managing social media for an organization.
· Experience working with unhoused people or formerly unhoused people and facilitating community-building activities.

· New Beginnings has a growing network of congregations and community groups regularly providing meals.
· Volunteers have meaningful, well-organized opportunities to serve onsite.
· New Beginnings maintains an active and engaging social media presence.
· Social Night becomes a consistent opportunity for connection and community within the supportive housing neighborhood.
· Community partners feel welcomed, valued, and connected to the mission of New Beginnings.
· Residents experience increased opportunities for belonging, connection, and positive community relationships
Physical Requirements / Work Environment:
● Must be able to sit, stand or walk for extended periods of time.
● Must be able to lift to 25 pounds / carry up to 15 pounds for short periods of time.
● Must be able to occasionally participate in physical activities throughout the facility, on the property and in the community.
Pay: From $22.00 per hour
