Location: Norwalk, CT
Position Type: Full-Time, Permanent
Compensation: $105,000 - $120,000 Base + ~10% Productivity Bonus
The Role
We are seeking a Tax Senior / Senior Tax Accountant to take full ownership of client engagements from start to finish. This is a hands-on, client-facing role centered on serving small businesses and closely held clients. You will manage everything from cleaning up trial balances to preparing complex corporate and individual returns. For a driven professional, this position offers a direct, clear path toward senior leadership and partner-track opportunities.
Key Responsibilities
Full-Cycle Tax Execution: Prepare a diverse mix of complex returns including Form 1040 (HNWIs, multi-state, QBI), Form 1065 (buyouts, Section 754 step-ups), Forms 1120/1120S (PTET regimes, 1040 integration), and Forms 990 & 1041.
Bookkeeping & Account Clean-Up: Adjust client trial balances to tax basis in QuickBooks; reconcile bank accounts, gross up payroll, record depreciation, and provide adjustments via Excel or journal entries.
Client Management & Advisory: Act as the primary point of contact for assigned accounts, gather information, meet deadlines, and naturally transition into a trusted advisor role.
Staff Development: Assist with training and mentoring junior staff and interns, and begin cross-reviewing peer returns as you transition into leadership.
Requirements
Experience: 4-5 years of relevant public accounting tax experience.
Credentials: Active CPA license, or actively tracking/close to obtaining.
Software Proficiency: Strong proficiency in QuickBooks (Online & Desktop) and Excel. Experience with UltraTax CS and Thomson Reuters Checkpoint/CoCounsel is a plus.
Technical Skills: Ability to independently take a messy set of client books and work them through to a finished tax return or financial statement.
Hours & Culture
Busy Season: ~55-60 hours per week during peak periods (Feb-April & Sept-Oct).
Work-Life Balance: Informal summer hours (Late May-August). We consistently invest in modern technology and workflow processes to prevent year-round burnout.
Benefits & Perks
Bonuses: ~10% annual productivity bonus paid in two installments (April and October).
Time Off: 3 weeks of PTO + a robust paid holiday schedule (including Christmas Eve, the day after Christmas, Black Friday, and 2 days off immediately following the April 15th deadline).
Health & Retirement: Aetna Health Insurance with an HRA (100% premium covered for employee-only); 401(k) with traditional/Roth options and employer match (eligible after 1 year).
Professional Development: 40+ hours of annual CPE fully paid (including a 2-day tax update seminar every January); annual performance reviews right after the April deadline.
