Responsibilities
- Review patient charts to ensure all required documentation, test results, and orders are available prior to appointments.
- Escort patients to exam rooms and ensure timely patient flow throughout the clinic.
- Prepare patients for examinations by obtaining vital signs, documenting medical history, updating medications and allergies, and recording the chief complaint.
- Assist physicians and advanced practice providers during office visits and clinical procedures.
- Perform clinical duties within scope of certification
- Clean, stock, and prepare examination rooms and procedure areas.
- Schedule procedures, diagnostic testing, referrals, and follow-up appointments.
- Provide patients with pre-procedure and post-procedure instructions, including bowel preparation education and medication guidance.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR).
- Maintain adequate clinical supplies and notify leadership of inventory needs.
- Follow infection prevention, OSHA, and HIPAA guidelines to ensure a safe environment for patients and staff.
- Collaborate with providers, nurses, and administrative staff to provide exceptional patient care and maintain efficient clinic operations.
Requirements
Education & Certification
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program preferred.
- Current Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), Registered Medical Assistant (RMA), or equivalent nationally recognized certification required or obtained within 90 days of hire.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required or obtained within 90 days of hire.
Experience
- Minimum of one (1) year of experience in an outpatient medical practice preferred.
- Previous gastroenterology, internal medicine, family medicine, or specialty practice experience preferred.
- Experience using electronic medical records (EMR); ModMed gGastro experience is a plus.
