Job Title: Payroll Specialist
Position Summary
The Payroll Specialist is responsible for processing payroll accurately and on time while ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. This role manages employee compensation, deductions, tax reporting, and payroll records, while providing excellent support to employees regarding payroll-related inquiries.
Key Responsibilities
Process weekly, bi-weekly, or semi-monthly payroll for employees
Ensure accuracy of timekeeping data, wages, deductions, and benefits
Maintain and update payroll records, including new hires, terminations, and changes
Calculate and process overtime, bonuses, and commissions
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll laws and tax regulations
Prepare and submit payroll tax filings and reports
Reconcile payroll accounts and resolve discrepancies
Coordinate with HR and Finance on employee data and compensation changes
Manage garnishments, levies, and other payroll deductions
Generate payroll reports for management and audits
Respond to employee inquiries regarding pay, taxes, and deductions
Support year-end processes including W-2 preparation and distribution
Required Skills & Competencies
Strong knowledge of payroll processes, tax regulations, and compliance requirements
High level of accuracy and attention to detail
Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Excellent organizational and time management abilities
Proficiency in payroll systems (e.g., ADP, Paychex, UKG, Workday)
Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (e.g., formulas, pivot tables)

Qualifications
Associate or bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field
2–5 years of payroll processing experience preferred
Preferred Qualifications
Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC)
Experience with multi-state payroll processing
Knowledge of wage and hour laws (FLSA)
