Creature’s Plants & Coffee is a queer-owned plant nursery and specialty coffee shop located in Northeast Los Angeles. Qualifications
- Several years’ experience working in retail (plant retail setting is ideal)
- Personable and outgoing; excellent at naturally connecting with guests, providing proactive customer service, and utilizing consultative upselling to drive shop goals
- Working knowledge of main plant categories found in nursery settings
(drought tolerants, CA natives, herbs/edibles, tropicals)
- Passion for relating plant information to different skill levels
- Highly organized, punctual, reliable, and efficient with task completion
- Comfortable working outside in varying weather conditions
- Ability to walk, bend and stand for extended periods, to maneuver heavy inventory (up to 40–50 lbs) such as larger plants and heavy pots, utilize a dolly safely, and handle outdoor nursery maintenance
- Willingness to learn/continue learning about all shop inventory
- Availability to work on weekends and peak hours
Responsibilities
- Sales assistance – proactively helping customers, answering questions, efficient POS checkout, pulling online orders, and aiding with loading.
- Customer relations – enthusiastically greeting guests, periodically checking in as they browse, maintaining a positive attitude, and tactfully de-escalating issues.
- Inventory proficiency – master basics of all shop inventory, expand specialized plant knowledge, and make proactive suggestions/pairings to drive sales.
- Shop maintenance – executing opening/closing procedures, and keeping the sales floor highly organized, fully stocked, and clean throughout the day.
- Plant care – maintain general knowledge of inventory care, strictly adhere to watering schedules, and prune/clean up plants as necessary.
- Team communication – working with team members respectfully and efficiently, collaborating on customer questions, and reporting damaged inventory or special requests.
Pay Rate/Schedule
- Pay rate is $18/hr, + tips average $4/hr
- Opening shift start at 7am, closing shift ends at 5:45 pm
- Part-time schedule: about 20 hours a week(range is 18-25 hours depending on availability and shop needs)
