Required Qualifications:
· High school diploma or GED required
· Must possess City or State Food Handlers License
· Minimum 1-2 years of experience in the food industry
· Must be familiar or can identify food ingredients
· Must have an understanding of food and kitchen safety
· Demonstrate ability to multi-task
· Demonstrate ability to set up and break down rooms for classes in a timely fashion
· Ability to bend and lift over 30 pounds
· Demonstrate ability to follow instructions and ask clarifying questions
· Must understand FOH operations and be able to deliver a good customer experience
· Must possess a strong sense of urgency and attention to detail
· Good communication including listening skills required
· Proven ability to work independently at times and within a team
· Demonstrate the ability to prioritize multiple tasks to meet deadlines
· Must have the ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends
· Proven ability to cook Hispanic cuisine.
· Bilingual Spanish-speaking strongly preferred.
Job Description:
St. Ann’s Corner of Harm Reduction is a Public Health non-profit agency that has been providing services to the South Bronx for over 30 years including fresh hot meals throughout the day. We are looking for Kitchen Assistants to support our head chef in preparing a multi-course menu for our participants. The role as a Kitchen Assistant is a unique blend of back of house and front of house operations. This position reports to the Community Space Coordinator.
Job Duties Include (but not limited to):
· Under the supervision of the lead cook, assist in meal preparation, serving, and clean up.
· Wash and sterilize kitchen equipment and cookware following DOH rules and regulations
· Clean work area, equipment, kitchen, and dining area as directed.
· Maintain an organized inventory, refrigerator, and freezer as necessary.
· Work as a member of a team to establish and maintain high level of care and respect for and communication with participants.
· Work cooperatively with other staff members.
· Share information about participant progress, needs, and problems with other staff.
· Attend training sessions and conferences as required for enhancement of job skills.
· Implement emergency procedures as necessary.
· Participate in regular supervision, training, and staff meetings as required for enhancement of job skills.
· Assist with other duties as directed.
