Job Description for Construction Lead
Bennington County Habitat for Humanity is seeking a skilled, mission‑driven Construction Site Lead to help build safe, decent, and affordable homes for local families. The ideal candidate brings 5+ years of hands-on residential construction experience and at least 1 year in a leadership role, with the confidence to guide crews of 2–8 carpenters and support volunteers of all skill levels.
This full‑time role (Tuesday–Saturday) works closely with the Construction Manager to keep projects moving, maintain a safe and organized job site, and create a positive, welcoming experience for volunteers and homeowner partners. Salary range is $27-$29/hour + full benefits.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead daily construction activities in alignment with building codes, Habitat plans, and quality standards
- Coordinate subcontractors and ensure efficient job site workflow
- Maintain site organization, safety, and readiness for upcoming tasks
- Provide clear direction, training, and support to volunteers and crew leaders
- Promote safe work practices as a trained HfHI competent safety person
- Communicate progress, needs, and schedule updates to the Construction Manager
- Participate in hands‑on building tasks as part of the team
- Capture and submit daily site photos
- Track and submit volunteer hours
Requirements:
A must: 5+ years experience of actually building houses
Construction & Technical Skills
- Strong residential construction experience
- Ability to read and follow plans and specifications
- Attention to details, and proficient with hand tools
Leadership & Interpersonal Skills
- Strong communication and listening skills.
- Ability to lead, motivate, and train volunteers with varying skill levels.
- Commitment to Habitat’s mission, values, and ministry‑based approach.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to stand, bend, kneel, climb ladders, and work outdoors in varied weather
Other Requirements
- Valid driver’s license
- Must pass Criminal Background Check and Sexual Offender Check
Compensation:
- $27-$29 per hour depending on the successful applicant’s qualifications and experience. Eight paid holidays, paid vacation, personal time off, paid health insurance, retirement plan with employer contribution.
