Duties
- Offer peer-led support, guidance, and mentorship to individuals experiencing mental health or substance use issues
- Respond promptly to crisis situations using crisis management and intervention techniques to ensure safety and de-escalation
- Utilize motivational interviewing skills to encourage clients’ engagement in their recovery journey
- Assist clients in developing coping strategies and connecting them with appropriate behavioral health resources
- Document interactions accurately within Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems, maintaining confidentiality and compliance with privacy standards
- Collaborate with clinical teams to coordinate care plans and provide ongoing peer support tailored to individual needs
- Participate in training sessions on crisis intervention, addiction counseling, social work practices, and other relevant topics to enhance service quality
Requirements
- Proven lived experience with mental health challenges or substance use recovery, demonstrating resilience and empathy
- Certification as a Certified Peer Support Specialist (CPSS) or equivalent credential preferred; relevant training programs are acceptable for consideration
- Strong skills in crisis intervention and crisis management to effectively handle emergency situations
- Knowledge of behavioral health principles, mental health counseling techniques, and addiction counseling strategies
- Ability to build trusting relationships through mentoring, motivational interviewing, and active listening
- Familiarity with Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems for documentation purposes
- Excellent communication skills, with a passion for supporting others on their path to wellness
