Core Duties
· Involve laying cables, fusion or mechanical splicing, terminating connections, and using specialized testing equipment like OTDRs) to verify signal strength. They troubleshoot connectivity issues across residential, commercial, or outside plant networks in gas plants, power plants, refineries, and compressor stations.
· Installation testing, and termination of both single mode and multi-mode fiber optic cable.
Key Responsibilities
· Installation and Routing: laying underground, aerial, or inside-premises fiber optic cables
· Splicing: Prepping, traying, and joining optical fibers together using fusion or mechanical splicing to ensure continuous data transmission.
· Testing & Troubleshooting: Operating bi-directional OTDRs and power meters to test for signal loss and locating faults.
· Equipment Setup: Installing, configuring, and maintaining demarcation enclosures, switch, routers, and patch panels.
· Documentation: Keeping accurate records of splicing schematics, network designs, and closeout documentation for all cable and splice locations.
· Preform basic to complex installation, troubleshooting & repair of fiber systems under minimal supervision.
· Access the fiber optic splice enclosure and splice the necessary fibers directly from a bucket truck or manlift as required.
· Install demarcation enclosures, switches and other telecom equipment.

Work Environment & Physical Demands
· Physical Labor: Work requires lifting/pulling cables, using hand tools, and standing, crawling, or kneeling for extended periods of time. As well as working out of man lifts and bucket trucks.
· On-Call/Emergencies: Technicians are often expected to work outside normal hours (weekends, nights, or holidays) to restore critical network outages.
· Diverse Settings: Tasks are performed in varying environments, including data centers, client homes/businesses, cramped crawlspaces, and outdoor utility poles/manholes in all weather conditions. Able to pass a background check mandatory.
Job Experience
· Desired:
1. Recent Fiber Installation – Pulling/Terminating fiber cabling.
2. Fusion splicing/terminations
3. FOA Certification is a plus
4. General knowledge of OTDR and Light Source and Power Meters
5. Familiar with splice drawings and OTDR test sheets and reading traces
6. Ability to read splicing matrix and design drawings
7. Cable prep/single and mass fusion splicing and termination abilities
8. Fiber optic test ant troubleshooting abilities
Required:
· Good motor vehicle driving record with a valid driver's license
· Excellent writing and oral communication skills
· Ability to interact with customers, vendors, contractors and other required personnel
· The individual must comply with departmental and corporate internal controls and all internal controls processes
· The individual must possess and employ the highest ethical and business standards and always conduct himself/herself with the greatest degree of professional integrity
Experience:
· Fiber Optic: 2 years (Preferred)
· Experience with blowing machines and innerducts
· Knowledge of confined space practices
Pay: $35.00 - $45.00 per hour
