Duties
- Review and process insurance claims using DRG (Diagnosis-Related Group), CPT (Current Procedural Terminology) coding, ICD-9, and ICD-10 codes to ensure accurate billing and reimbursement
- Verify patient insurance coverage, benefits, and eligibility prior to service delivery
- Collaborate with medical staff to ensure proper documentation of medical records, procedures, and diagnoses for billing purposes
- Manage medical collections by following up on unpaid claims and resolving discrepancies with insurance providers
- Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations by applying appropriate medical terminology and coding standards
- Assist in resolving billing issues by communicating effectively with insurance companies and patients
Qualifications
- Proven experience in medical coding, including DRG, CPT coding, ICD-9, ICD-10, and ICD coding systems
- Strong knowledge of medical billing processes and medical collection procedures
- Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems used in healthcare settings
- Excellent understanding of medical terminology, medical records management, and healthcare regulations
- Prior experience working in a medical office environment is highly preferred
- Ability to interpret complex medical documentation accurately and efficiently
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail to ensure precise coding and billing practices
