American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Mother Baby (Postpartum) position at an acute care hospital in Boise, ID, requiring at least 2 years of experience and active BLS, NRP, and STABLE certifications.

Work setting is an acute care hospital Mother Baby unit (Postpartum), Floor 8, with 32 maternal/couplet care beds
-
Patient population includes postpartum mothers and well newborns, including C-section recoveries, magnesium drip patients, higher-risk maternal patients, twins, and minor neonatal procedures (circumcision, frenectomy)

Goal ratio is 1 nurse to 3 couplets (1:6); magnesium patients are staffed at a 1:4 ratio

Unit delivers approximately 350–400 births per month

RNs are required to titrate drips; common titratable drips include Magnesium and Pitocin per postpartum protocols

Charting system is Epic
-
12-hour day shifts, 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM
-
Weekend requirement: every other weekend or as needed

Travelers are first to float to sister hospitals (Meridian and Nampa campuses) for like patient assignments, and may be assigned to sit with patients on other floors

No on-call or standby requirement, though opportunities to pick up additional shifts may occasionally arise

Holiday coverage expected as needed

Scheduling is managed by the unit manager; no block scheduling or special scheduling requests accepted

Active ID or Compact RN license required at time of consideration; pending licenses not accepted

Minimum 2 years of Mother Baby or similar postpartum nursing experience required

Candidates with only 1 year of experience must have experience in a comparable setting to be considered

Required certifications: BLS, NRP, and STABLE — all must be active at time of consideration; copies required

Magnesium drip experience preferred

Epic EMR experience required

Driver's license required

2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months worked, and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years — both must include dates of employment and eligibility for rehire

Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility; local candidates are not accepted

Unit is locked and staffed with CNAs and a health unit coordinator
-
Charge nurse is free of patient assignment

Discharge nurse available on days to assist with patient education
-
Support staff includes lactation consultants (ABM model), contracted staff for hearing screens, photography, and car seat safety, and lab for newborn metabolic screenings

Neonatologist is in-house 24/7 in the NICU and available for emergencies; obstetric hospitalist and anesthesia are also in-house 24/7

Orientation consists of 2–3 shifts; travelers are first to float to Nampa and Meridian campuses and first to sit with patients on other floors during orientation period

Scrub color is open — any solid or print is acceptable; scrubs must be clean and professional, and closed-toe/closed-heel shoes required (no Crocs)

Former permanent employees must have been separated for at least one year before being considered for a travel assignment

A manager interview is required as part of the consideration process
