Duties
- Review and verify dental insurance claims for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with coding standards such as CPT (Current Procedural Terminology), ICD-9, ICD-10, and DRG (Diagnosis-Related Group) codes.
- Prepare and submit electronic or paper claims using specialized billing software and EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems.
- Follow up on unpaid or denied claims by analyzing reasons for denials, resubmitting corrected claims, and appealing when necessary to secure reimbursement.
- Collaborate with dental office staff to ensure proper documentation of medical records and treatment details align with billing requirements.
- Maintain detailed records of all billing activities, claim statuses, and correspondence with insurance carriers to ensure transparency and audit readiness.
- Stay updated on healthcare claims management policies, health insurance regulations, and changes in medical coding standards to ensure compliance.
- Provide exceptional customer service by addressing patient inquiries related to insurance coverage, claim status, and billing concerns promptly and professionally.
Requirements
- Proven experience in medical billing with a focus on dental insurance or healthcare claims management.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, dental procedures, and coding systems including CPT, ICD-9, ICD-10, ICD coding practices, and DRG classifications.
- Familiarity with billing software platforms, EMR/EHR systems, and Microsoft Office applications for documentation and reporting purposes.
- Ability to interpret health insurance policies and explain coverage details clearly to patients.
- Excellent organizational skills with keen attention to detail to ensure accuracy in claim submissions and record keeping.
- Effective communication skills to liaise confidently with insurance companies, healthcare providers, and patients.
