Role: CNC Machinist II/III (Setup, Programming & Process Improvement)

Job Summary
We are seeking skilled CNC Machinists to join our manufacturing team in Calera, Alabama. This position is responsible for setting up, operating, troubleshooting, and optimizing CNC machining equipment while producing high-quality precision components in a fast-paced production environment.
The ideal candidate will have experience with CNC lathes and/or machining centers, strong blueprint and GD&T interpretation skills, and the ability to maintain strict quality standards. Advanced candidates will have experience editing CNC programs, driving process improvements, mentoring team members, and serving as a technical resource on the production floor.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up and operate CNC lathes, mills, and machining centers to produce precision components.
- Read, interpret, and work from engineering drawings, blueprints, GD&T specifications, and work instructions.
- Perform tooling changes, machine offsets, and equipment adjustments to maintain quality and productivity.
- Conduct first-piece and in-process inspections using precision measuring equipment, including micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, and other inspection tools.
- Monitor machine performance and ensure compliance with quality standards and production requirements.
- Troubleshoot machining, tooling, fixture, chatter, scrap, dimensional, and quality-related issues.
- Edit and optimize CNC programs, feeds, speeds, and tooling offsets to improve performance and efficiency.
- Recommend and implement tooling improvements, process enhancements, and cycle-time reductions.
- Perform routine preventive maintenance and maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
- Collaborate with Engineering, Quality, and Production teams to improve manufacturing processes and product quality.
- Train, mentor, and provide technical guidance to less experienced machinists as needed.
- Follow all company safety procedures while maintaining productivity and quality objectives.
Qualifications
Required
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Experience operating and setting up CNC machining equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and GD&T specifications.
- Proficiency using precision measuring instruments and inspection equipment.
- Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and mechanical aptitude.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a manufacturing environment.
Preferred
- 2+ years of CNC machining experience, with consideration given to advanced-level candidates.
- Experience with CNC lathes, mills, and machining centers.
- Advanced machine setup capabilities and process optimization experience.
- Experience editing G-code and/or CAM-generated programs.
- Strong understanding of tooling selection, feeds, speeds, and machining processes.
- Leadership, mentoring, or technical training experience.
- Technical school training, apprenticeship, or related manufacturing certification.
